In using a Yamaha HTR-5790 (got it for $200 less than an RXV-1400 at jr.com) receiver for video switching, I have encountered a few problems and was hoping to determine if these are due to my configuration or limitations of the receiver.
1. If I run the DVD to the receiver via component but the receiver to the tv via s-video I get no picture. It works fine with s-video and s-video. I assume you cannot "down convert". I have video conversion turned on.
2. I cannot watch (and listen thru the tv speakers) to digital cable (hooked up to the reciever via s-video) without turning on the reciever.
Thanks for any input.
I couldn't be happier this reciever. I have the HTR-5790 hooked up to Paradigm Titan fronts and a Paradigm PS-1000 sub (no center, surrounds or others yet) and it sounds phenomenal. Night and day to my old HK AVR45 (circa 1998). My wife screamed for me to come "hear this" the first time she heard a gun shot on it.
