This is from Yamaha online store. It states the HTR5590 is 80watts X 5 @1k.
Look for yourself.

here:

Does Yamaha even know WTF they are telling their customers?

Zumbo,
You must remember that the 5590 is an old "mirror" of the RXV-1300, not the 1400.

Also, try not to get too caught up in the manufacturer's spec sheets...cause you will go blind!

Yes, I have learned that from you guys. But, features are a big difference. And that, my friend, you can take to the bank!

And considering you can get a better deal on a RX-V1400 online, verses a HTR-5590, it is a no-brainer!

Yep, looks like the 1300 & 5590 are the same. But the 1400 is much different. All have the same MSRP. What is up with that. The more I study Yamaha, the more p!$$#d I get!

What Is The Difference Between The RX-V Line And The HTR Line?
There are many similarities between these two product lines. The RX-V line and the HTR line are produced in the same Yamaha factory using the same high quality parts throughout. The RX-V and equivalent HTR models have the same warranty periods, the same manufacturer's suggested retail price, the same features, and the same remote control units.

There is a cosmetic difference found on the front panels of these two lines. The RX-V line maintains the traditional white colored lettering normally found on most Yamaha components, while the HTR line provides a slightly different approach. Yamaha has created a new look by using gold colored lettering in selected areas on the HTR receiver series. However, both the RX-V line and the HTR line feature the same high quality metal front panel construction.

The amplifiers in the HTR and RX-V units are identical but rated differently to comply with the accepted measurement standards of their respective channels of distribution. Both ratings are FTC approved and are designed to handle the dynamics of today's audio and video sources. The RX-V line has the power amplifiers rated from 20-20000 Hz. The HTR line has the power amplifiers rated at 1000 Hz. Both lines can reproduce the full frequency response of 20-20000 Hz.

The RX-V line is typically sold through Yamaha authorized audio/video specialty retailers, and is not available for mail order sales.

The HTR line is sold through mass merchants, catalog retailers, and department stores. You may also purchase the HTR line through the mail.

All transactions must be done through the authorized Yamaha dealer network. Any purchase made from an unauthorized dealer/retailer voids the Yamaha manufacturer's warranty.

To comment on what StirFry3 said -

You always need get preouts with the Yamahas. The Yamahas are supurb accoustically and functionally but their weakness is underpowered power supplies - and sooner or later you will want to add a front end power amp.

You must at least have pre-outs for the front two main chanells.

Or just bypass their amp all together, & use a five or seven channel amp. MMMMM,MMMMMM,MMMMM!!

According to yamaha.ca........not .com, the units are identical. I printed out the spec sheets and checked each one off one by one........exactly the same.
The photos of the backs of each unit are identical.
There is either a mistake on the Canadian website, or we just get different models up here.
Doesn't matter anymore.........I bought the HK AVR 630!!
Thanks for the input, and hope the war ends soon. LOLOL

Loose4Bruce, did you know you could get a H/K AVR 7200 for $788 for J and R or OneCall right now because the AVR 7300 is hitting the market. For the extra $200 US you could get a far superior receiver than the HTR 5590 Yamaha.

I had considered the HK 7200, but being in Canada the cheapest I could get it here for is 3000.00.
I could order it from JandR and it would cost me half as much BUT I'd be SOL for the warranty. I can't take that chance.
