Yamaha DVD-S1500 Lockup / reboot

I've had my DVD-S1500 for about 3 weeks now and have noticed that it occasionally locks up trying to read a disk when I put it in. I found this to be a problem last night when powering up, ejecting a brand-new "Rattle & Hum" and replacing it with a somewhat dirty and scratched "Mask of Zorro" which had been played a couple of nights before. After a couple of minutes of "reading", it would not respond to the eject or power buttons, so I pulled the power cord. After cleaning the disk to remove some finger prints, it read it after a little bit. I earlier noticed the same behavior with an older purely audio CD.

Anyone else observed this behavior? Anyone know if there is a firmware fix for this yet?

I have the YAMAHA DVC6770 (aka C750) and have had the same problem. I sent the unit in to the repair/exchange center, as I figured I had a defective unit. I don't think the locking is related to the disk, because I would put the same disk back in and not have any problems. In addition, I had the unit freeze in the middle of a Dvd, when unplugging unit and starting over at same spot there was no problem. I considered returning the unit (I had mine for around three weeks also), but I really like the sound quality. Maybe they had a bad production run recently? The turn around on the repair/exchange is supposed to be 5 business days, mine has been out for a week, so I should be receiving unit soon.

Problems continue

This unit has continued to have difficulty reading disks. It has really become a problem, especially with multi-layered disks, i.e. Hybrid SACD, DVD-A, and DL-DVD Video. Won't recognize them as valid disks. Just spent 25 minutes trying to get it to read any of 5 disks in the above categories. Would read CD-Audio, and single-layer DVDs, but no high-quality disks.

The Saga continues...
