Yamaha DVD-C750 vs Onkyo DV-CP802

I am building a new ht system, and I've already selected the Yamaha RX-V2500 AVR (should be delivered any day now). I have BIC Venturi speakers (DV84's for mains, a DV62CLR-S center, and either the DV62si's or DV52si's for surrounds/presence). I am now trying to select an SACD/DVD-A changer. My selection will be based primarily on audio performance - I am really looking to find the best SOUNDING unit that I can.

I read the AH review of the Yamaha DVD-C750, and I was pretty sure I had found exactly what I am looking for. According to the review, the unit sounds significantly better than other units tested. My only concern is that in reading user reviews on other sites, there seemed to be quite a few complaints about the long disc load and change times (which really impairs the usefulness of the random shuffle feature). I also read some complaints that the player doesn't remember where you were on a disc, or some of the settings, when you pause or stop a disc.

I am now reconsidering the Onkyo DV-CP802, although I can't seem to find any critical reviews of the sound quality of this unit.

Does anyone know how the Onkyo 802 stacks up against the Yamaha 750, based purely on sound quality? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

yamaha c-750 is great but has one major drawback: fixed sub crossover at 120khz for dvd-a/ sacd analog output. fthe single dics version is variable a bit and has a few more options

Does anybody know what the yamaha DVD s 657 crossover point is. It is different from the 750. It seems louder or brighter, not as much bass. I would say the crossover must be lower, arounfd 100 or 80hz.

I have the CP-802 ......

.... and I am very happy with it. You definately need a variable crossover or at least fixed at 80Hz (typical best setting for most surround applications). It may not sound like a big deal, but having a six disc changer is kind of nice. The unit is very solidly built and sounds excellent to me. I have not heard the C-750 but have owned a Yamaha in the past and found it to be a little bright for my taste. One thing about the CP-802 is that it does not perform a true random play - it will replay some tracks it has already played instead of eliminating them from the playlist; it's only slightly irritating though, I don't use that feature too much.

Yamaha dvd-c750

Stay far away from this unit...no far far away. You can take naps in the time it takes to load and play a disc.
