Yamaha DVD-C750 Problems

I just purchased the Yamaha RX-V659 to go with my Yammi DVD-C750 Universal disc Player and I've run into a problem with CD playback (not SACD/DVD-Audio). When I insert a CD, it auto plays, but the first fraction of a second of the first cut is cut off! When I hit the "back" button it plays it just fine. In addition, when I play "Brain Wilson's 'Smile'" there is a split-second dropout about a quarter second into the first cut that never goes away. When I play this and any other CD on my (retired) Sony CDP-CE-525 CD Player it's all fine. ???

On a related note...
The C750 sounds better than the CE-525. But what if I connect the Sony via optical? Does the Sony become a "mere" transport, with the fidelity largely determined by the Receiver's DA converters? I'm wondering if, worst case, I can do an end run around the problem simply by buying a cable (the Sony doesn't do coax.)

My c750 does the same. there was a post some time ago concerning this w/ the 750. I just get volume set and restart track by hitting the back button. We are not the only owners to have this issue. If memory serves me correctly someone stated that it may be the d/a converter in recvr or something like that. Worse than that is that mine will sometimes freeze-up and not take a command. Not even power off! I bought it almost 2 yrs ago new for $150 to my door! I have already got my money out of it and it's still going pretty strong. I have had the freeze-up issue twice in the 2 yrs. Maybe I need to change the remote batteries!?

which digi connect are you using...optic or coax? or analog LR?

I use component vid, optic digi, and the multi-ch(6).

just the LR from the multi-channel output (I'm not using it in my HT).

Hi Bob;
I encountered a similar experience when I changed from a Denon AVR-3803 receiver to my current Yamaha RX-V2500 when using a Samsung DVD-HD950 player.

Check out my thread here from earlier this year to see my findings. In my case it seemed that the problem emenated from the receiver causing a second or two delay with certain DVD-As via multichannel and CDs via digital coaxial connection. When using analog DVD to receiver RCA connections (not multichannel), I was able to eliminate the delay... -TD

Thanks for the advice!
I'll tool around with input/output settings and see if that helps. And any opinions about my "Sony transport" idea?
