The DSP-E492 (which is a sound processor and an amp for center and rear channels) has an impedance selector switch in the back of the unit, which an article on this website (
article) recommends keeping set to 8 Ohm minimum impedance at all times (the other setting being min. 4 Ohm for center chan and min. 6 Ohm for rear surrounds).
I have a pair of KLH S-PRO4 that I got at RadioShack for just under $50, which I am intending to use as rear surrounds in a 5.1 system. The impedance rating on these is given as "4-6 Ohm avg".
The Yahama is rated at 60 Wpc for center and 60+60Wpc for the rears (it does not amplify the main fronts). Dynamic power output per channel is given as 110/130/150/165 W for 8/6/4/2 Ohm loads, respectively, according to the manual.
Does it sound like it would be safe running these KLH surrounds from this amp with impedance selector set to 8 Ohm min?
