The DSP-E492 (which is a sound processor and an amp for center and rear channels) has an impedance selector switch in the back of the unit, which an article on this website (article) recommends keeping set to 8 Ohm minimum impedance at all times (the other setting being min. 4 Ohm for center chan and min. 6 Ohm for rear surrounds).

I have a pair of KLH S-PRO4 that I got at RadioShack for just under $50, which I am intending to use as rear surrounds in a 5.1 system. The impedance rating on these is given as "4-6 Ohm avg".

The Yahama is rated at 60 Wpc for center and 60+60Wpc for the rears (it does not amplify the main fronts). Dynamic power output per channel is given as 110/130/150/165 W for 8/6/4/2 Ohm loads, respectively, according to the manual.

Does it sound like it would be safe running these KLH surrounds from this amp with impedance selector set to 8 Ohm min?
