hi there - I wonder if you can help me?

I have recently bought some yamaha ax 12 pa speakers alongside the yamaha emx512 powered mixer. I did a gig last week and the sounds was great then last night i did another gig from 7.30 until midnight. The sound was great up until the last 3 songs. The speakers suddenly went extremely muffled without being touched. I was running the sound through my laptop so I went and fiddled with the wires. After a minute or so the speakers returned back to normal but then did the same thing again.

I left them playing muffled for a minute and then faded the master volume down. As the volume was on approx 25% I heard them regain clarity.

I am very confused as I have tested them again today and they are not muffled. I am very cautious and wary now to do another gig in case the same thing happens? The shop I bought them from have suggested talking them in to play and demonstrate the problem - however they are not muffled today.

Is their a possibly they overheated or have blown???? Any advice would be a great help.

Many Thanks

Overheating should produce distortion as well. Did it sound as though part of the sound was missing, like the high end? Most pro speakers are designed to handle high power, but a tweeter that isn’t cooled may be getting too hot. You might also want to check out the amp, although if it were overheating it should just shut down completely. Also look to make sure there are no shorts in any of the wiring.
