Yamaha Avantage RX 1060

Does anyone have experience with the Yamaha Avantage RX 1060 Receiver? I recently upgraded my receiver and speakers and will be playing with speaker placement, room acoustics, etc between now and the new year.

I purchased the receiver to drive my Wharfedale Diamond 250 front speakers. After initial testing with 2.0 audio, I am very pleased, but having some indecision if I should have upgraded to the RX 2060 or RX 3060. I purchased the 1060 as it was the most powerful 7.2 model offered. Not that I want 9.2, more loudness, or any other mass without class, but I want to make a well informed decision (subjective as that may be) while I have the ability to return.

Im new to the post, but have been into home theater for more than a decade. This is my first serious attempt at building a theater and only heard of Audioholics since September. All information is helpful!

Thank you!

What features do the 2060 and 3060 have that you think you'll regret not having?

Can't really think of any right now. Maybe more "direct music streaming like Pandora"instead of having to use my iPad. But 2060 + 3060 don't have that either.

My concern is that I am not getting the most of my 250's. The 1060 can output 110W (8 ohm 0.06% THD) while the 2060 can output 140W (0.06% THD) and I am not sure of the additional amplification would result in a cleaner sound at the same volume; especially in 2.0 audio. I have no desire for additional features like music cast or 9.2.

The difference looks significant in terms of watts but in term of spl output not so much, takes a doubling of power to gain merely 3dB, so the difference is about 1 dB between those two and not really a matter of "cleaner" sound. I wouldn't worry about it. If you really want to have a lot of power then make sure the avr has pre-outs (both do) so you can add an external power amp.

Thank you for saying that! I am quite happy at the sound and the loudness I can achieve. I thought about an amp as opposed to a receiver upgrade as well. I think I will hold off for the near term and wait until I test with cinema, as so far I only tested with audio (2.0 and 5.0).

I forgot to think about spl; the minimal db gain would not likely be material. Thank you for saying that!

Have you thought about bi-amping the speaker?

I looked up your Wharfedale Diamond 250's and the website says that it's normal impedance is 6 ohms. Yamaha website states that the a1060 reciever unning at 6 ohms has 165w per channel. That would better solve your power issues.
