Yamaha av receiver pre out is too low for svs sb200 sub

I am listening to normal cds for now. Going to look for some surround sound disks too. I will try mains as small. But dont tell me my proacs can do only 200hz. Maybe they are not as good for bass but it is not 200hz. My stomach tells me. If you have cheap crap speakers even with 12 inch drivers then maybe. Proacs cost 2000 pounds. And give at least 25hz. So forget about proacs or listen to them first... Will repeat even proacs d48 have 6.5 inch drivers....

That's not what I said regarding 200hz so don't get offended, I'm not knocking your speakers' response at all (and didn't even comment on the lower frequency response spec, which is vague in any case per Proac's spec). Your room has acoustic properties, roughly divided at around 200hz and bass response is highly dependent on the room and the speaker's positioning in the room; subs are rarely going to work best where the L/R speakers work best. Look up Schroeder frequency.

Your speakers will not do 25hz +/- 3db so understanding that might help you. More than likely that's the f10 as I stated. It doesn't matter what the cost of a speaker is in relation to its 3db extension. The best transmission line speakers with 6.5" woofers reach down to about 34hz maybe a tad lower at their 3db point. I say it again your speakers may sound great, but don't fool yourself into believing they can take the place of a capable subwoofer. If your speakers could truly reach low and loud why would you have bought a subwoofer? Was your intention to some how cross it over at 30hz? Set them to small let the sub handle the lows, and your speakers will shine above 80hz, where most speakers that are well designed should.

SVS has a tool on their website called Merlin.
It does not list the ProAc 148, But does list the ProAc 130.
If I am correct in assuming it is the same 6.5" driver that you have two of, SVS suggests setting your AVR to crossover at 60Hz.
(understand that a second woofer will increase efficiency, but won't change the low end of the speaker much if at all).

Just to be sure, when crossing over in the receiver, make sure the crossover knobs on your subs are set as high as they go. I think PB-2000's actually say "LFE" at the highest setting.

Ok. Tried mains as small. Avr sub level to -3, -6db. Sub gain about 70-75%. With 200hz crossover get the most bass. With 60-80hz bass is more natural. But have a feeling that when set to small some harmonics are not heard very well. Noticed that on classics. Maybe it is just placebo.

Still have questions

1. How to determine correct avr and sub levels using test tones. Should spl meter show exactly the same levels for all speakers including subs?

2. On quiet songs with -35db subs might go to sleep still

3. When main is small should extra bass option be disabled?

4. Should i try set avr back to 8ohm? Do i need to disconnect speakers while doing this?

1. With test tones you need a spl meter to level all to 75/80dbs
2. It shouldn't but you can always turn the sub to on instead of auto
3. No don't use double bass with your speakers if your listening to music that doesnt go below 40hz switch to pure direct to disable the sub if you want
4. Yes by switching the impedance to 6ohms your limiting power to your speakers

Most of your questions have been addressed in the audioholics setup guides, I recommend you read through them as there is some great info , BTW keep your sub crossover below 120 as you will localize the subs

Thank you all guys for help.

I will order mic and will try to further fine tune my stuff but what I have already looks like a good starting point. So the trick was to set avr sub level to about -6db and increase sub gain. I now have 75% on both subs. And I still have a headroom! I am glad I bought 2 subs. 1 would prob not be enough...
