Yamaha A/V RX-V465: remote external component control with scene buttons

i can not link external component controlling with scene buttons on remote.

i have entered the external component codes for the input buttons on the remote and have no problem controlling the external component when i press the input buttons on the remote,

but when i try and set up the scene buttons, it with switch to the proper input and sound field but my remote will not control the external component.

the manual says to first set up the input codes (i did) and then just hold down both the scene button and the input button for 3 seconds and u will get external component control linked to the scene button, but i get nothing!

what am i doing wrong??????

Perhaps it's dependent on the order in which you hold the buttons, but I also wonder if you have to do the code for the input and then the scene selection back-to-back.

First, let's try the order. When you try it, do you press the "Input" button first, then press the "Scene" button, and then hold for three seconds? If not, try that. If so, try pressing the "Scene" button first, then the "Input" button, and then hold for three seconds. You might need to wait until the "TRANSMIT" button flashes before letting go.

If neither of those works, try the following. Follow the instructions on page 44 of the manual in regards to programming the code for an external component and then immediately try assigning the scene to that input.
