Yamaha 6260 receiver suddenly has no sound

Hi,

I'm hoping some of the experts on here can help me with an issue I'm currently having. I've been troubleshooting this all morning but can't seem to figure it out.

I have a Yamaha HTR-6260 receiver which konked out last night. I was watching a DVD and the whole system shut down and then came back on spontaneously; and when it did, the audio didn't come back up. And I mean, it completely didn't come back up. I can hear nothing at all through any of my 5.1 speakers no matter what the input mode.

I'll detail what I've already troubleshot already, and hopefully that assists in some manner:

1. We were having a storm here, so I assumed some kind of protection circuit breaker was set off (though I do use a surge protector). Power cycled the device, but no change.

2. Factory reset the device; no change.

3. Verified all 6 speakers plugged in correctly, and even unplugged them all and plugged them back in; no change.

4. Checked multiple inputs (ie. this happened when I was playing a DVD on my PS3, through HDMI)...tried playing through my ipod device which is connected through a non-hdmi interface...also tried the "tuner" and couldn't get any sound. Not even static, and not even a little bit.

5. Proved out my speakers and speaker wire. I plugged an ancient Sony receiver I still have into the speakers, and could use it through them without a problem. Problem definitely resides within the Yamaha receiver.

6. Fiddled with the advanced settings as the instruction manual suggests, but could get nowhere. Speaker setup to 8 ohms, but I tried both that and 6 ohms just to try it. It didn't work. Again, factory reset, and again it didn't work.

When I play something through HDMI (which comes into the receiver and out to my TV), I can see the visual display acting as though music is playing...there just isn't any audio coming out. Same thing goes if I play something through the IPOD docking interface. I can get a visual display and "watch" a song playing...just no sound.

I'm not really sure what else I can do. I have a feeling that this had something to do with a power surge, and am wondering if there is some internal circuit breaker that has been flipped and needs to somehow be manually "unflipped", but I have no idea how to do this as information on the net is sketchy, and the instruction manual doesn't help very much.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, because I'm totally at a loss here, and as I just bought this thing a couple months ago, I don't feel like shelling out another $800 for a new one.

Thanks in advance,

Jason.

Does your receiver have a warranty? I'd have a service center look at it.

I'm pretty sure it's under a 1-year warranty, but their customer service in Canada is closed until monday. If worse comes to worse, that's what I'll have to do. I was hoping there was something obvious that I was just missing here.

It kind of seems as though you've done what you can (system reset, etc.) to get it going again. Anything further, would require removing the cover - something you don't want to do if it could effect the warranty coverage.
