I have a problem of sorts with this receiver. This receiver does both DTS HD & DOLBY TRUE HD. The concern I have is which what the units says it is decoding. I am playing a Blu-ray DVD disk with DTS-HD and my receiver is saying it is DTS-ES MATRIX! What is that all about? Why is it not saying dts hd? Any feedback is welcome.

What exactly is on the BR DVD jacket?
One way around this may be to use the 5.1 analog out from the hi def DVD player, which one do you have, and connect it with RCA cables to the 5.1 analog in on the Yam. Let the DVD player do the decoding. Problem solved, maybe.

Are you using an HDMI connection? The player may not be able to decode DTS-HD internally and also may not be able to output a bitstream of the DTS-HD track without a possible future firmware update.

It does seem likely that you would need an HDMI connection to allow the receiver to decode the HD signals or simply use analog connections and allow the player to do the decoding.
The indicators on the left side of the display, at least in previous models, only indicate what decoders are being used and what the receiver is outputting. Not necessarily what it is receiving.
Strange but that model isn't even listed on Yamaha's website yet, so it's impossible to check the manual and tell what it's internal decoding capabilties are.

Unless you have Samsung 1400 Blu-ray player. you won't get DTS HD. It's the only Blu-ray that seems to pass DTS MA to the receiver.

I'm using the Samsung BD-P1400 with HDMI. What settings should I use on the setup for the Samsung?

I'd think that just like with the old digital connnections you would set the player to output the signal via bitstream. That way the receiver would decode the stream and should display what kind of surround sound mode it's getting.

I have it set to bitstream already. Any other ideas?

Did you update the firmware on the Samsung 1400? Without the new firmware update, you aren't bitstreaming the lossless codec.

Is there a new update already for this unit? No I have not tried it but will see what version it is.
