Hi Everyone, Please Help Me... Whenever I run the auto setup My subwoofer stops working. It works during the test mode and then nothing after that. I have to reset the receiver back to the default factory settings in order to get it to work. Whats going on? how can I fix/remedy this? :(

Which setting would I do that from & in which menu option?

Dave,
YPAO has a tendency to set the subwoofer output about 10 db too low. If your subwoofer is set to Auto turn-on upon the presence of a subwoofer/LFE signal it may not be "seeing" a large enough signal to activate properly.
1) Check the value for the sub relative to the other speakers in the SPEAKER LEVEL menu, if much lower bump it up 10 db or so
2) Check your sub switches, if set to AUTO, try setting to ON. This should make it work although probably below the level your ears will want.
3) Adjust the sub by ear or with a sound meter in the MANUAL SETUP to fix for the long term.

Good luck,

YPAO Navigation

See page 34 and 35 in your manual on how to navigate around the RESULTS menu once YPAO shows "Measurement Complete" to see what YPAO set for each speaker's size, distance, and level. For the sub it will show all previous, plus the crossover frequency (60Hz, 80Hz, etc.).

If you accidentally exit the RESULTS screens, no big deal, you can acces the same info from the MANUAL SETUP screens--manual page 80.

It took me a combination of what both bandphan and xeagledriver said for me to get it setup right. Thank You both :)
I do have one last question... If a tower speaker is made up of 4 little 4 inch speaker and a tweater plus bass hole, then should I set it up as a large speaker or small. The frame is about 5 feet tall but the speakers are small

Large or Small Tower

Small is the way to go, especially since you have a sub. Your sub is better equipped to produce the low frequency sounds, that is it's job. Taking the low frequency burden off of the towers should allow them to perform better, even if the towers are "technically" capable of producing the lower frequencies.

I suggest you look at your speaker's literature, or online, to find the low end frequency capability of the towers. The frequency response needs to be cited with a +/- X db value (generaly +/-3db) to actually be a useful measure. If the tower's low end is at or below 30 to 35 Hz +/-3 db you could set them to large (I sincerely doubt it, given the description). :D

Cheers,

generally speaking, dont think in terms of large or small, but where the low bass is sent. Large directs it to the mains, small to the sub:)

Thanks guys. Now set to small. Everythings sounds good with chicken little. Harry potter on the otherhand sounds like crap. In auto setup set it to "flat" cuz all my speakers are from the same set and brand but again harry potter (bluray) sounds horrible. The voices can barley be heard but the music, effects, and bass are loud and clear. Am I missing something. This is my first home theater so I'm not too experienced. Yamaha HTR 6160 receiver + precision acoustics speaker set: 2 towers, 2 book shelfs, 1 center, 1 Subwoofer. When I try to manually make louder certain speakers like the fronts or surrounds... It all still sounds unchanged. Maybe im changing from the wrong menu? All wiring has been doublechecked and is correct. Help? :D

You can try another eq or none at all to see if that sounds better to you, the other option is to boost the eq in the upper freqs and adjust the trim up.
