Yamaha 6060 Upgrade, or something different?

Hey, I currently have a Yamaha 5830, and I am thinking about upgrading it. I really want to have video switching with my HDMI, as I would prefer to only deal with one chord. I was thinking of getting the 6060, seeing as I will soon be getting 2 Athena AS-F2.2 floorstanders, and would like to get a 7.1 receiver. However I was kind of hoping on futureproofing a little, I want to be able to run 7.1 through HDMI and I read on a post on this forum that it can't do that. Which worries me. Is there anything else I could look at ? I'm open to any brand really, I can get a 6060 for around 400 Canadian shipped to me, so I was looking at spending around that much maybe 500 would be close to the limit. If anyone has anymore ideas they could throw at me that would be awesome, or any info on the issue I read bout the 6060.

Thanks in advance

Keegan

The Onkyo TX-SR605 can be had online for about $400USD. Add shipping, tax, duty and brokerage and you can probably still be ahead of Canadian pricing for a reciever with a nice feature package. Try to source on locally and see what the Canadian pricing is first. It seems that Onkyo has a pretty steep markup on Canadian product.

makes no sense on the Onkyo markup

Now that the Canadian dollar is on par with the US. Denon also had a ridiculous markup here in Canada as well. The only company producing receivers I know off which seems to be fair in pricing in Canada is Yamaha

I thought the HTR-6060/RX-V659 was capable of handling 7.1 LPCM via HDMI? There aren't that many titles in HD formats that have 7.1 LPCM anyway to my knowledge.

I don't know really, I just read it somewhere on this forum. I wasn't sure if it was true or not. If thats the case I may just stick with the 6060 then. If there is any other options please let me know :)

Thanks

Yamaha Receivers

Also check the prices on the comparable Yamaha RX-V661 receiver. It also has Zone 2 features.

So looking at what I kind of need and want, Yamaha in general seems like the best option in the price range, cool, now I know, any more suggestions let me know :p

Thanks again
