For those with this receiver, anyone run into this issue? My video out is toast? It was working fine this morning, then we went to watch a movie and noticed the problem. Have S-video out from receiver to my TV and the picture is not clear, almost black & white-ish. I trouble shot my TV, it's ok. I tried using component video out and the composite video outs, same problem. I unplugged power and am letting it sit for a few hours. Will see what happens next. Anyone have suggestions? If it needs to go in for repair, will see how the MACK warranty works. Anyone buy one of these (2500) online and have to use the MACK warranty?

S-Video uses two coaxial cables, luminance and color. If the color pin(s) are broken in the cable or not connecting for whatever reason, you'll get black-and-white output.

Edit: didn't read too carefully. Are you using S-Video for the input, by chance?

Thanks, I tried two s-video cables. The picture is the same regardless of the monitor output connections, s-video, composite or component.

Did you solve it?

Did you resolve your problem?

I had the same problem and ended up buying an external Svideo switcher... not very elegant, but it works.

Somebody suggested that my problem might be on the input side; perhaps a bad video cable or contact from one of my Svideo components.

One thing that always worked fine was the GUI interface. But the moment I tried to watch anything else I got the same results you're getting.

Let us know what happened.

Good luck!

I'm still trying to work with the e-tailer. I have a feeling I'll be taking it to the shop and footing the bill, since I bought on line. The GUI display is crisp, clear. I'll keep you posted...

me too

The video on my 2500 went AWOL one evening. I used a simple S-Video coupler to connect the source video, from the DBS receiver, directly to the video monitor cable -- effectively bypassing the receiver, but not changing any cables. Bingo - full function video. Reversing the bypass revealed the original problem. What to do? Unplugged the receiver from the mains for about an hour the next day. When I fired it up again, all was back to normal. I'm happy, but still bemused.

Please explain this a little more to me... My video came in after a few days of non-use. It worked fine for a few days, then went AWOL again. Today, it came back. I'd like to try your set up and avoid the problem altogether. Thanks.

ditto

I have a similar problem with the picture quality from various components which is being routed through the reciever and output over component - suddenly the degradation occurred for no obvious reason.

Anyone find out anything? I also purchased via online retailer so I am not sure if Yamaha will offer any support...

Update: To date; no more problems, however I got rid of my TIVO which did not have component video outs. I now rent a DVR from Comcast, major improvement in picture and audio(Digital Audio outs). I now use component video out of DVR to 2500 with S-video out to TV. It's been several weeks since I've seen any problem. Stay tuned...

Sounds to me like a screwed up S-Video cable somewhere in the chain. If they are loose, they will give a B+W picture, I've had it happen. With the help of a friend, turn on a source, and wiggle the cables while the friend watches the TV. I bet it will flicker = loose connection on one of the cables.

It's probably bad/defective video cables/connectors

I opted for an external video switching box from Radio Shack... not a very elegant solution, but a very dependable one - it works every time.

I would need to do extensive video cable testing to really get to the bottom of this. This is by the way the essence of my own theory, that this problem is probably related to the video cables and their quality. I wish somebody else could confirm this.

I think there is an intermittent problem. I have not seen mine do it but I know what I saw. My son is the one that mentioned it to me, so I know was not seeing things. It sounds like several of us have seen the ghost...

s-video to TV?

I'm hoping your not trying to run HD thru the S-video ( it can't do it) there's also a small issue with component going down to s-video. The recievers don't do a great job in the down conversion. Can you run component to the tv, it would look MUCH better......

Hi...
i got the same problem with the RX-V2500.
I hooked my SkyPerfecTV (Japanese PayTV) via
Video Cable to the Amp and then go from there
via Component Video to my Plasma.
It works well for a while, but after a while, the picture
looses it's color and turns blurry.
Connecting the PayTV Box directly to the TV works just fine.
DVD thru the amp (Component Video IN and OUT) works great too.

Now a clerk in the store i bought at in, mentioned the reason could be copy protection stuff on the PayTV provider side. I know they use that here on Sky (Macrovision if i remember correctly.)
He thinks that could screw the video up-conversion up.
That makes some sense to me.

What do you guys think???

Thats seriously ****ed up, if thats the case.

Any thoughts welcome!!!

Cheers,
Rich
