w/out knowing kind of speakers and the type of use its hard to say which one would be better. I will say this, I think the denon overall is a better receiver. I think the Yamaha is too bright and not as good musically as the Denon. If I was going to spend that much on a receiver, I would look at a Marantz 7500. The Marantz has all the bells and whistles as the 2 you are looking at but I think it has a warmer sound. Both the Yamaha and the Denon are nice receivers, but i dont think either stacks up against the Marantz. I have been shopping receivers a lot lately, and all the models you have mentioned are more than I want to spend, but the Marantz would be at the top of my wish list. Just my 2 cents.

I had the same decision to make. I went with the Yammie because my last one was a denon 3802 and I wanted to try something different, but I think either would be a very good choice.

Agreed -- either would be a very good choice. The Denon 3805 was named 2004 A/V Receiver of the Year here. :D If you check out the Audioholics Product of the Year thread, you will see that I queried TPTB regarding why they named the Denon over the Yamaha 2500. You should definitely check out the response.

If you read the reviews on this site, to me it sounds like the Yamaha was reviewed a bit better--even though the Denon was rated the better overall receiver at year-end. The DSP and YPAO auto EQ and room set-up functions were definitely better on the Yamaha. On the other hand, the Denon's amplifier was the better of the two, according to TPTB reviewers here.

I own the 3805 and like it -- but I HATE the remote control. :( If you get the Denon, plan on spending some more $$ to get a "real" remote that has some quality built in.

But again, either is a fine choice -- you really cannot go wrong. :)

I consider the NAD T753 a better all around pick, easily. It has all the necessary features, but sacrifices those that few people use for superior power supplies and sound quality. Also a very simple piece.

This tough question (being that they are both impressive on paper and have a solid reputation) has been asked many times. I think most owners of each would recommend the one they own.

Reading as many reviews as you can search out may help you make your own choice. In NA based HT forums, people would cite the better sound quality, less gadgets in the slightly higher priced Arcam, NAD models. Some feel the same about HK products as well. A couple of major U.K magazines reviewed the Yamaha and Denon recently, and they seem to rank them above NAD and Arcam for overall value while giving them the same or higher grade (e.g. 5 stars vs 4) in sound quality.

Both receivers are very good decks, and I really don't think you'll go wrong with either one of them. I've got the 3805- I thought that the menus were easier to navigate and I don't use the DSPs that much....BUT...I think Zarg's been sniffing silver solder :D -I really like the new Denon remote. It's easy to use and works like a charm (for me, at least).

Bryan...just my opinion, your mileage may vary...

That's great Bryan. Glad your remote is working fine. But see the numerous threads here, and elsewhere, regarding quality problems with the 3805 remote. I think it's important for people thinking about the Denon to know the remotes suffer from QC problems, and that a number of folks have had to send their remotes back to the factory for replacement. That's not just me -- there are a fair number of posts to be found regarding the problem.

Again, glad yours is not one of the problem children. Others have not been as lucky as you have been.

Merry Christmas.
