How come on different seller sites do I see the 2400 listed as having Dolby IIx and some just Dolby II which are quite different (5 channel vs 7 channel) Are there differences in model year and the Dolby II is just an older amp? Or is this just an oversight in the listing? I have seen this with other amps and it makes me hesitate to purchase. Thanks for any help

I was told that early versions of the unit did not have the "x". Later versions do. The only way to tell the difference that I found was that units with the "x" had that fact printed on the outside box. It is not noted on the unit itself, in the owners manual or anywhere else that I know of.

I saw two boxes when I went shopping for my unit and both had the "x" including the one I bought.

Perhaps someone here can inquire directly from Yamaha whether this is, in fact, the situation.

Joe Here's a reply from Yamaha on this question. This makes it really hard for me to purchase this unit onlline. Almost every etailer just says Dolby II

In regards to you question about Dolby Prologic IIx.

Dolby Prologic IIx has been incorporated to all of our currently
shipping model RX-V1400 and RX-V2400 model receivers. There is no way
to tell which receivers have the upgrade simply by serial number. An
RX-V1400 or RX-V2400 will have "Dolby Pro Logic IIx" if the
program-selector includes the following three options: PLIIx Movie,
PLIIx Music and PLIIx Game. (Also, while these three mode names are
visible, "DDPLII" appears to the left of the main display.) If you
purchased one that does not yet have this feature added to it, please
use the following directions to receive your free upgrade from Yamaha:

1. Fax a copy of your sales receipt, with your name, address and
daytime telephone number, to (888) 435-7922 before September 1, 2004.
Please include serial number.
2. Our customer service department will mail you a Return Authorization
for Upgrade number and our Buena Park Service Center address.
3. You will then ship your RX-V1400 or RX-V2400 to our Service Center,
where DPL IIx will be installed free of charge.
4. Our goal will be to install the upgrade within 2 business days from
receipt of the receiver, and to then return the upgraded units freight
prepaid.

If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely
Ken
