I am thinking about changing my reciever. I currently have a yamaha 1300 and a friend told me to check out a pioneer 1015. The pioneer is way cheaper than what i paid for the yamaha but is it as good as the yamaha. I see it has more features (as it should being that its newer) but does it sound any better than my old amp. I was wondering if anyone has been able to compare the two side by side.

Fire,

I don't think that would be a step up from your unit. IMO, the newer Yamaha 1500 is a higher end unit than the Pioneer 1015, and the msrp shows. Your 1300 is the older version of the 1500. Any reason you're thinking of switching brands?

I was told that the new pioneer sounded a little better. I was originally looking at the 1500 as an upgrade.

It's basically a rebadged Elite 52TX, believe it or not minus a few features. It's a great deal, and a heck of a unit. If I was upgrading a Yamaha 1300 to Pioneer, I'd step up to at least a 55 or 56TXi. Yeah, they are pricey, but why take a lateral move to the 1015 with a few more bells and whistles? It's only going to sound like a midlevel Pioneer, not the higher end Elites. And that's assuming you like the sound of the Pioneers, which typically Yamaha guys don't care for, and vice versa. To put it into laymens terms. Denon, Harman, and Marantz - boring but accurate, Yamaha - alive, and Pioneer - very alive.
