I have my DVD player hooked up to my Yamaha RX V2500 with a component video cable and an optical cable for the audio. Any ideas why I have video but no audio? The cable is brand new so I hope it isn't broken. Is there some kind of setting on the receiver I can check to make sure it is set up correctly? I can't find any information in the manual to help me. Sorry for such an amateur question.

I know that with my Denon I have to assign the inputs on the back for both the electronic component as well as what type of connection is used (i.e., is the DVD player assigned to digital coax 1 or 2, or optical 1, or the DVD composite input?). You should be able to find all that in your setup menu, no?

Bryan...Denon and Yamaha are more alike than most people like to think...

Thanks for replying! I'll have to go into the GUI stuff and look and see what it is set at. I tried a few different things and still couldn't get it. I'll try again and let you know. Thanks again.

The old Yamaha products also could be switched between analog audio and digital audio and 'auto' where it detects the type of audio.

If you have the receiver set for 'analog' then it won't even look for the digital feed.

Definitely look at the manual and GUI. I am assuming you have the toslink connection made to the DVD input on the back of the unit and your wiring is correct. I also assume that you have 'digital out' turned on within your DVD player.

Yeah, the wiring is correct and all. I will take a look at whether or not it is set to auto or not. It really had me puzzled yesterday. I''ll let you know. This website is great!! Thanks for the help.

BMXTRIX,

I went home and tried setting the reciever I/O for DVD to "none." According to the manual this is what it should be for auto detecting. I still don't have audio, only video. Any other ideas?
