Would the receiver bottleneck the speakers and not push them to their full potential?

Speakers :
  • 130W Power Input Frequency Range40 Hz to 20 kHz Impedance 6 Ohms
Receiver :
  • 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.09% THD, with 2 channels driven
Amplifier: Dynamic Power Per Channel125 / 165 / 190 / 235W (8/6/4/2Ohms) for the reciever.

Since the speakers are 130W and @6 ohm then the amp will be at 165 if I put it at max? So I should be good and not have to worry about the amp not giving enough power to the speakers?

Side Question: Would get a receiver that is 8 ohms be okay with the speakers since they are 6ohms?

Sorry if this is a crappy post , I just want the best experience :]
and thank you for any who gives feedback.

Looks like the speakers are by far the bottleneck. The reciever is quite capable. Looking at those specs, especially for speakers, doesnt really say all that much. The stats on the reciever do give a bit more useable information but still we dont know exactly how they got those numbers. At the same dB level the more real power the amp has the less the chance of overtaxing a speaker.

The numbers don't work they way you think they do....for example impedance is not constant in the speaker, the nominal impedance rating is just a general guideline. Amp power capability varies with impedance as well too as you've found out.

If you start over driving the amps or the speakers it starts sounding distorted and you back off on the volume a bit and that's pretty much all she wrote. If it's not loud enough there, you can get a different rec'r or maybe external amps assuming the speakers are there to stay.

I have a 663 rec'r which should be less powerful than yours IIRC and it measured piss poor for 7 channels driven but okay for 2 channel in this review. I wouldn't trust the reported output on the 683 based on the findings of my 663 but it's always been more than enough for my modest power/spl needs.

I have cranked it in 2 channel on 4 ohm speakers and it stayed clean and it was easily louder than I ever need it to be. I sit about 10 feet away in a fairly open space. My speakers have been externally amped up a variety of ways and they probably will be again but I'm not missing anything day to day when using just the rec'r. It's only while cranking it for the purpose of showing off that I kind of want some amps hooked up.

Side Question: Would get a receiver that is 8 ohms be okay with the speakers since they are 6ohms?
I would want pre outs on a rec'r that isn't 4 Ohm stable and I wouldn't neccesarily believe the 6 Ohm impedance spec either. What rec'r are you considering with an 8 Ohm rating and why and what speakers do you have?

There are current 5 or 6 hundred dollar rec'rs out there with 4 Ohm ratings.

No need for none o' that 8 Ohm only stuff ... for me.
