Yahama / Axiom Pairing Specs

Looking for comments on a beginning system set-up I'm considering.

Thinking of either the Yahama HTR-5990

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/HTR5990.htm

or the RX-V1600

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/receivers/RXV1600.htm

Looking to pair it with the Axiom M60's

http://www.axiomaudio.com/m60ti_main.html

or the M22ti's with a sub

http://www.axiomaudio.com/m22ti_main.html

Any help would be appreciated. The impedance, RMS, and SPL talk can get a little complicated. The specs look good to me, but I don't know much about this stuff and can't find an easy explanation anywhere.

Thanks

Speakers and receiver

The Yahama receivers you listed are good options with plenty of features. Yamaha receivers are very trasparent and their amplifiers have plenty of power for the 8 ohm speakers you listed. In fact, the only Axiom product that might not pair well with those receivers is the 4 ohm M80's.

The M60's would be a great start for a HT or 2 channels system. However, if you want the full HT experience for movies, you will still want a good sub to fill in the 20-40 Hz frequency range.

I would also consider a sub with the M60s for a well-rounded sound at all frequencies. But, as jc mentioned, it depends on what you plan to use the system for. Just music? Music and movies?
