We have a lot of grass to mow now and last year was a PITA trying to keep it under control so....

Was the last one in stock, got free delivery for black Friday. Was raining a LOT over the weekend, so didn't get to try it out other than driving it up to the garage :) As far as I could tell from the web, it is a rebadged Husqvarna for Home Depot and the reviews for it were good. Briggs & Stratton 20HP V-twin, hydrostatic, 42" :)

These were in my garage too. A WHOLE LOT of acorns:

Damn woodpeckers! They peck holes in the wall and then push the acorns in and keep pushing them in because it looks like a perfectly good hole...

Holy crap!!! How many woodpeckers do you have??? Let's see pics of your garage. I'm envisioning it looking like swiss cheese.

They try to shove them everywhere there is enough space. Through the vents, between the trim and siding, everywhere. Normally they would be sticking them in trees, but they seem to like the back side of the garage for some reason. Not swiss cheese, but you can see light from inside the garage  I think I am going to actually put a few sheets of tin or galvanized steel where they have been pecking. I filled a bunch in with some expandable foam temporarily. There are a LOT of woodpeckers up there and that is just from a few weeks. I've already cleaned the garage out a few times this year. The bad part is, all those acorns attract rodents too. Some of the acorns go into the wall itself and then the rodents chew through the sheetrock to get to them...then take up residence. It turned part of the wall into a big "bird feeder" for squirrels and mice  I had to patch a few spots after the dog "removed" the mice. Those are the fun parts about a place in the country :)

The thing's got a cup holder. How awesome is that?
LOL. Yeah, I guess if you need a mower that you drive, you need to bring a drink with you :)

Haha, I am sure that is exactly what they are thinking. "This tree is really BIG. I am going to have sooooo many nuts when I need them!!"

One question-

Where do you clamp the umbrella when the Sun is too hot?

Thanks for supporting the Wisconsin economy.

LOL, no they don't look like that, but the really funny thing is, they DO make that sound.

Doesn't need one - can't mow in the summer or you get a $1K fine due to fire risk. Not much grows in the summer anyway, so you just need to get it short before it gets hot :)

Nothing like a V-Twin Hydro.

I have a John Deere X300 Hydro with a Kawasaki V-Twin. Being a motorcycle guy, I had to rock the Kawasaki V-twin.:D

That's the opposite of what I have heard about grass length. I have been told that keeping it long before it becomes dry lets the roots grow deeper- they grow about the same depth as the grass blade height. OTOH, we don't get droughts like you.

How much do they fine the idiots who start grass fires for the excitement, like the one near Riverside a couple of years ago? My cousin in the Canyon Lake area could see the flames just up from her place and it was pretty dicey for a while.

We're talking wild grass here, not lawn, so if I let it grow to length it can get pretty tall. Last year we had record rain and in the front it got to almost 5ft tall!! I don't think rooting is an issue for this grass :) Yes, it is extremely dry in the summer.

If they catch them, they get to pay big fines as well as the cost to fight the fire. A small fire will easily be in the tens of thousands to fight.

This is what my yard looks like, as well as the surrounding million miles or so, so fire would not be good:

My property line ends just before the second large oak in the center.

Was looking at Deeres also in the area, but they were only discounted like $50. Since this guy was the last one, it was discounted about $500 which made it quite a bit less than a comparable Deere.

Man, that's beautiful! The acorns reminded me of something that happened to me a few years ago. We BQ year-round, which may not seem like a big deal to you, but we get a "real" winter here. Well, I hadn't used my BBQ for a couple of weeks and when I opened it up I discovered that a squirrel had filled it to the top with pine cones! It was pretty funny - probably because there was nothing damaged.

Real nice, John. I have a Toro riding mower and it has a Kawasaki engine. I needed the zero turn capability plus it had to go into the shed so clearance was an issue. Why is it that women don't have the same exhilaration when they get a new mop, steam iron, Magic Clean eraser?

Chu, we use the same lawn mower. :)

Which one, the laugh or the pecking? :D
The laugh, believe it or not! At first I wasn't sure what I was hearing, and I was cracking up when I figured out that it was them and that was where the Woody sound came from. They don't do the last goofy part, but the first part is almost dead on.

That's why I love my gal. She was just as geeked as me to get the mower fired up and I let her drive it first. With it full choke when you start it up, it sounds a little like a Ducati  Not sure we'll need a zero turn here, at least I hope not :)

Before I got my JD, I was looking at a Toro and Exmark 36" zero turn. Exmark made by Toro.;) The deciding factor was the fact that I could hold a beer and drive my JD. So, i decided to forgo the speed for a free hand. All three had similar Kawasaki 17HP V-twin. To get Kawasaki on a JD , you have to go to a JD tractor dealer.

+, JD was 38". That is the maximum that will fit through my gates. Lawn has five separate gated areas.

I was wondering about that when you said it, since the ones I saw when looking were alll B&S or some other name on the higher models, but not Kawasaki.

Our place is almost 10acres and it is pretty hilly and steep in some parts, but we are required to clear 100' from any structure. We have a Husqvarna shop in town, so I should be able to get any parts and attachments for this one and Home Depot also said we get free blades for life through them!! That's awesome.
