Well, obviously start by making sure all your connections are tight and making good contacts. Though, it may just be dying :(

I got the three rings of deaths three times. Good news was that I was able to fix it each time on my own.

Maybe the connector on either end is faulty, but I doubt it. Even still, I would try it with the component cables and see if it still does it. If it doesn't cut out, you have your fix.

Maybe, I think I might as just buy a stand alone dvd since it doesnt do it in games, very weird though. Thanks for the help.

Gaming consoles are not the greatest player. Single players are much more effective then them. The problem o reading usually happens in console beacuse they are not made for specifically watching DVD.

That's a sweeping generalization I've found to be highly inaccurate.

I personally have used PS2 and PS3 as movie players with zero issues.

The 360 may be a deffective piece of equipment in such tasks, but consider the manufacturer.

The 360 is just fine for watching standard dvd's. No need to buy a seperate dvd player unless the 360 breaks down and you don't get it fixed. As to your issues, the audio cutting in and out could be due to a faulty HDMI cable. As to the problem with the 360 occasionally having problems reading dvd's is that the dvd drive could be on its way out or eventually the RROD. You might be still be covered under the extended warranty depending when you purchased it.

Do any error messages appear when it does not read a disk? This is very important.

On my fifth...

The good news is that the turn-around is pretty quick on getting a refurbished unit, and there's been no cost to me expect driving to UPS to drop off the box.

It took 2 weeks for my last unit from the day that I reported the dead dvd drive to the day that the "new" unit showed up. Of course, it helped that I kept the coffin from the previous return.

no usaully it reads, after the measage pops up it starts to play. also to the one that wrote about gaming consoles being good players, the PS3 is one of the very best blu ray players out there, just look at the amount of people that use them in high end home theaters. I use one in my main home theater and don;'t have a problem. Also the cable works my friend plugged his elite in and it didnt have the problem.
