I had a surround-back channel problem with my denon 3313, so I packed it up on the 15th and sent it to Panurgy in NJ.
It showed back up yesterday, the 25th. I just got it reinstalled but haven't run Audessy, etc yet, so I don't know if they really got it fixed yet but wow-10 day turnaround from Denver to NJ and back!
According to the invoice, they replaced 6 resistors and 2 transistors, cleaned it, and function checked the whole unit.
good news is they did it fast.. Bad news is.. It cost me 45.00 to ship it to them.
I'll let y'all know if they got it right tomorrow.
Cheers, Mac

Seriously, I have no life.
That is good news. If it is fixed, that is a small price to pay, I would think.

Wowed too soon.. Got it hooked up, plugged it in, and 2 minutes into setup- a popping noise and the blinking red light of death :0
I'm seriously pissed off. To top it off, denon's website is down for maintenance! Grrr.

If I were you, I would definitely get them to pay for return shipping to get fixed. That is not acceptable and I am sure they will handle the situation correctly. If I were in your shoes I would be ticked off.

That's the plan.. As soon as their website is back up!

Same thing happened to me once!

The day I got it back (from the Panurgy NJ refurb factory), it went up in smokes literally.

I bet you will think twice about any refurb items like I do (Panurgy NJ does the Refurb). Everything is all peachy until it happens to you and scars you for life.

Refurb is like a used car, it could be a sweet deal, or a sour lemon. :D

Was this a refurb unit?
That wasn't clear to me.
Yeah,I got it in August from A4L. I could have bought a new 3312 from Llisten Up locally for the same dinero (they have in- house service for items bought from them only) but I had to have the latest and greatest model.
This will be my last refurb!.

Welcome to my world.

It only takes one time to scar you for life. I must be an idiot because I let it happen to me several times.

Kind of out of the way from Denver, but The Sound Doctor in Loveland...he's an authorized repair shop for all the big brands, very reasonably priced, but up to his eyeballs with broken down AVRs so turn-around is slow.

That is the problem with a refurb, it is a huge risk. You can be lucky and have a unit that was open box or had a minor problem. However you have the risk in a complex unit like a receiver of getting a unit with deep seated problems, that are not economically fixable or not fixable.

I'm highly suspicious that unit will be a total loss for you, unless you can persuade Denon to send you a new unit, which they likely won't.

My interpretation of the photos:

Wife: "It's okay - I still love you, you big moron. :D"

Pooch: "Dude, put that camera down. I don't want to be associated with this cluster!"

That's what happens when everyone here tells you that refurb from A4L is SO GREAT. Just do it. Come on. Buy it. Nothing will happen to YOU because it never happened to US. It's all fun and games until someone loses his INSANITY.

It seems like TLS Guy and I have been like the ONLY 2 persons to discourage refurb. Maybe now you can be only the 3rd person. :D

BTW, I've been bitten FOUR freaking times by refurb, but everyone discredits my experience because they were not bought from A4L. Yes, by definition, I must be INSANE and STUPID.

im done with refurb, 2 bad receivers, one bad amp...slow burn too so its a huge PITA to deal with it. Although my onkyo 905 was new...it certainly didnt age well with the whole "lets just melt the hdmi board and see if he notices"
