It was eye-opening to me, but I'm not coming up with any ideas to make it more humane... and I'm not about to go Vegan...
Only thing I miss about FL is the YaYa's Chicken, and all the awesome Greek food.they just opened up a Chick-fil-A down the road.
...Anyway, there is always another way. To tell me that taking a baby chick and putting it into a meat grinder is the most humane way to end their lives is bs. That is the easiest way to end their lives. I also don't buy this balogna about how much more expensive it would be to either find some other use for the chicks or a better way to put them down in a more compassionate way. Show me proof it would cost so much more. Sure, there may be more cost associated, but spreading that cost across their entire product may only be a rise in price by a nickel...oh, and the idea that putting that silly sticker on there would raise the price is ridiculous. Again, since this would be a mass produced item you are looking at fractions of a penny per product. The end result is a very insignificant raise in price.
I'm not a liberal and I don't expect to become a vegan, this is just a matter of right vs wrong. It isn't right to meaninglessly destroy life with a meat grinder. I'm not an enterprising man so I don't know what the solution is...but I am a betting man and I am willing to bet that there is a solution out there somewhere. Ultimately I don't expect things to change. People will continue doing what they do. I will continue to buy these eggs, but I honestly don't know how a person can look themselves in the mirror when they make their living by tossing baby chicks in a meat grinder. A cold mind and cold heart like that only needs the right motivation to start coming up with reasons to start grinding up members of their own species.
I also wonder how many of the folks who have made comments about how they don't see anything wrong with this have ever worked on a farm? I have, and you gotta do what you gotta do when it comes time to slaughter your favorite pig but it isn't done in a way that is so non-challant as a meat grinder.
I am sure it wasn't a live rat, correct? I have no idea. If it was dead, I see no issues with it, especially that they cannot give consent like humans can beforehand.... She was told (paraphrasing) “If you won’t dissect the rat, you’re out of the program”. What are peoples feeling on that matter?
Maybe that was stage 3? After all, you start small and work up the chain....
The thing is, if she were presented with a human cadaver (assuming the person had made provisions for the body to be used in such a way) she wouldn’t have issue, and since she would be working with people anyway…
If you ever get the chance to see the exhibition I mentioned above, something like 'The Human Body' with different parts showing at different degrees, try to see it. Blood vessels, skin, other parts. Amazing body.My wife recently got her Doctorate in physical therapy. She showed me her cadaver when she was in school. That was SO creepy.
You mean you will torture it before eating it?...
For the record, I am throwing some live lobsters in hot boiling water tonight![]()
i've always thought they were made with breast parts. but they're too yummy to be breasts IMOBut, I always did wonder what Chicken McNuggets are made of...
Do we know how much the chicks suffer? Apparently the approving boards say this too swift. Talking about living things, much of the planet is a living thing, right, including the trees, etcAnd you know this how?
I'll tell you what, my Senegal Parrot sure as hell has feelings. She feels pain when she gets hurt. I can tell when she's happy, sad or angry. Bottom line is, it's a living thing and deserves a little respect. I understand that it's part of our food chain, but animals don't have to suffer to feed us.
People have the right and can choose to NOT get pregnant. These chickens didn't ask to be born.
How about mistreating humans? Like our enemies? As a conservative I certainly have a problem with anyone who abuses and mistreats animals. However, I have no problem taking out a deer and chopping it into steaks. We are supposed manage the animals not mistreat, abuse or torture them. So long as the animal suffers the least amount that is possible during it's slaughter, I don't have an issue.
You mean you have had un-yummy breast before?... but they're too yummy to be breasts IMO![]()
Not opposed to that solution. The way we do it here it just seems senseless...but it sounds like the Phillippines has it worked out to a point that has created a market for cooking these little guy up...and although they still end up dead, it doesn't seem pointless anymore.re OP: i did not know that. that was informative.
another way of disposing the male chicks - serve them as chicklets?(no, not the gum ...) we have boxes of chicken wings, legs and stuff ... why not chicklets? [something like chicken nuggets made from male chicks] [[they can even put on the box: we save these chicks from the grinder so you can have nuggets!]]
i feel for the chicks, i really do ... but they're yummy. but rest assured, with this new information, i will think about them everytime i chomp on a chicken.
but i'm thinking we don't do that here in the Philippines. i've always wondered why some of the chicken i eat are smaller than the others![]()
I would treat a deer better than a terrorist, but hey that's just me. A bullet is the quickest way possible to take a deer and I would think less painful than an arrow. How about mistreating humans? Like our enemies?
Since you brought up 'taking out a deer' is that by hunting? Is a bullet so humane, especially if it isn't that perfect shot?
I doubt those chicks suffer in that quick process and I doubt they have precognition of their fate.
Seen it twice. Even bought a T-shirt. They had one body that had various types of replacements attached, (knee, hip, etc.) VERY cool exhibit. If you ever get the chance to see the exhibition I mentioned above, something like 'The Human Body' with different parts showing at different degrees, try to see it. Blood vessels, skin, other parts. Amazing body.
