I am looking at some book shelf speakers. I posted a thread the other day. Now I saw last night that the EPOS Epic 2 are half price at $399. The feedback on them are fantastic. Would you pick these up? The price is hard to look past.

Eh, I wouldn't personally. But if you've auditioned them and like them, that's different.

I own a pair ... since fall of '13 ... very, very similar, tonally, to the Dynaudio X12. Will they be used for passive or active listening? the reason I ask is because if you plan on using them for critical, detailed monitor usage you may be disappointed. at that same time though there is very little chance of getting ear fatigue and if placed properly, no need for a sub. the rear reflex port & crossover combine to give out a great soundstage. I use them now in my bedroom (20'x20') and I'm extremely pleased with the results, considering how they fill the room with sound without sounding forced or harsh. if there's a $400 set of speakers that sound better, I haven't heard them.

I can not think of a better $400 speaker than the Epos, the cbm170se's come to mind for around $400 but the aesthetics are better on the epos, they both do things well.. For critical listening I think the ascend sierra 1's for under $700 in bstock would be a good place to be... The epos are great speakers for $400 they do a lot of things well..
