Outside of the 4 ohm issue (my Polk RTi12s which I plan on powering, possibly with this model, are an 8ohm load), your comments here concern me -- if you experienced a clear and distinct improvement over the power of the 1007, I can't see being satisfied with a "mere" AVR like the 1007...

Damn...:(
I wouldn't throw the 1007 under a bus.

Wow...

Nice. Thanks for the quick reply!

I take it you're a fan of their stuff?

I am as well, but don't have quite as much Onkyo gear as you...
I'm a huge fan of there stuff.

Huh? What do you mean by that?
I mean the 1007 may surprise you with what it can handle; the x007 series uses 3-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry which is a very very good amp section. The 906 he's using doesn't use them, so the 1007 can push 4 ohm loads easier.

I have about 3" of clearance right now. I play to buy an antec cooler for it in the next month.

Made some head way today. still cant get the pass through to work {so the unit doesnt need to be on for the tv to work}. And cant figure out what to do with <tv sp on> thats displayed while on cab/sat mode. I did get the PS3 to PCM and using 'Direct' on the Onkyo for the HD Codecs, correct, yes? Since its using the info from the disc and going direct, of course I'm not getting and surround back action. bit of a bummer. Now if you cycle through and use, say THX Ultra2 Cinema while playing a Blu Ray it still getting the HD audio but putting the THX thang to it??? Thanks for your input folks. Oh, and ran the Audyssey MuiltiEQ XT today, and that works pretty slick. Sampled Master and Commander in THX Ultra2 Cinema after wards and it sounded AWESOME. :D Going get the 'FRONT HIGHs' mounted tomorrow and rerun Audyssey. Should be interesting.:)

I love there gear cause I have never had any problems with none of it over the years that I bought it. Plus I find setup with them a little easier then other brands that I have helped my friends with.

I could easy be a Denon or Yamaha fan as well. The other brands in the same class or price range I could care less for.

I guess someone's a bit of a Trekkie. I see DS9, a Romulan Warbird, a Klingon Bird of Prey and Battle cruiser, the Defiant, a Ferenghi ship and a Romulan Warbird from TOS, plus you've got ST 6 showing on the TV.

Not that I know what any of that stuff is. ;)

I agree and concur with both of these statements and findings; furthermore, I like their gear's looks. :D

Could you be referring to...by any chance...cough cough...Sony?

Dapack,

You said the TX-NR906 doesn't use the triple inverted darlington output stage. That's peculiar considering it's supposed to be a higher model than the TX-NR1007. I remember when the TX-SR805 came out it was the most robust amp section I'd ever seen in a receiver that price. The TX-SR875 used the same output stage, and the TX-NR905 used a toroidal transformer, and what appeared to be the same output stage.

Then came along the TX-SR806, a leap backward from the TX-SR805 in so many ways, yet the TX-SR876 seemed to hold the same values as the TX-SR875. So what did the TX-NR906 do differently that time around, or was the TX-NR905 the same in the amp section as the TX-NR906 and both where somehow inferior to the TX-SR805, TX-SR875, and now the TX-NR1007?
