Ordered my new receiver yesterday, Onkyo TX-NR1007. Can't wait to start messin' with this 51 pound beast, and finally get to experience the HD Codecs too. Of course its going to be a major reconnect with everything, but it needs organizing anyway. I'll get to eliminate a receiver{#2}, 2 switching boxes and will also be adding a power center/line conditioner. So I'm gonna try to keep it a bit more uncluttered behind the rack. Of course UPS doesn't run Monday and not sure if it got out the door Fri, so hoping it will be here by weeks end. Stay tuned for pictures and I'm sure questions. Here's the first one, thinking of doing banana plugs {never had}. think I've read some do some don't, but are they all standard size and do the doubles {connected L/R} fit the Onkyo? Thanks

Where did you get it from? I've been eyeing the refurb 1007's from Accessories4less for a while... seems like a pretty good deal for $800, especially since the new 1008's seem to be a step down.

I got it from NewEgg, J & R actually had the cheapest price, but the EGG rocks.

Please post some impressions about this receiver when you can -- it's the model that's been suggested to me for a massive upgrade from my current 605, and I'm wondering if it will be the beast that can successfully drive my Polk RTi12's, which can handle a whopping 500 watts each...

You could always do a 707 ($400) or an 807 ($550) and an Emotiva XPA-2, XPA-3, or XPA-5. Adding an XPA-3 to my TX-NR906 gave me about 4db and a boost in impact with my Salks. Although the Onkyo may have been struggling a bit with a 4ohm load.

That's surprising that the massive 906 wasn't really satisfying enough for your power needs; that thing is a beast from what I've heard. As for the Emotivas, I can do that and have considered it, but I think I want to go down the new powerful AVR route first and see if more power is needed -- hence why I'm being guided towards the 1007 on this and other sites.

I would also consider, once I see the retail prices, the Onkyo PA-MC5500 multichannel amp if it ever comes to America's shores.

I was shocked at the improvement. Not only did I have to adjust speaker levels by 4db to restore the volume level match between the 145wpc 906 powered surrounds and the XPA-3 powered fronts but the impact was improved. Of course my 3 fronts are 4ohm speakers and I couldn't find a 4ohm power rating for the 906 so the jump in power may have been more than expected. That's also why I couldn't use the 906 in bridged mode because it won't support a 4ohm load when bridged.

Your going to be very happy with your 1007, I have been for the past eight months.

Are you going to do add any front height or wide speakers now that you have the ability to go 9.2?

I plan on trying the front highs after I get the basic set up running.

Well, got it in place, and operating somewhat, I confess I am a bit overwhelmed with this beast. Its gonna take some getting use to. 1st question, is there a 'pass through' setting {tv with tv sound without turning on the receiver? Still searching. 2nd question, is for example, Dolby Digital come up automatically when on some HD programming, its not, seems you have to cycle through a slew of them, not even sure if DD is one of them. Thanks for your input, I am sure this will be awesome, in time.

They will add a lot to the sound stage, at least with me they do.

Yes it is... Go to setup>7. hardware setup>4. HDMI>HDMI control and turn that on. HDMI will pass through but receiver will draw more power in standby mode.... About 18 watts if I recall.

Hey dapack69,

You have quite the list of Onkyo equipment there; impressive! Can you share some pics of your setup?

Outside of the 4 ohm issue (my Polk RTi12s which I plan on powering, possibly with this model, are an 8ohm load), your comments here concern me -- if you experienced a clear and distinct improvement over the power of the 1007, I can't see being satisfied with a "mere" AVR like the 1007...

Damn...:(
