Wire Routing Options

Alright, so I have several hundred feet of wire that I need to route/hide around my apartment. I'd rather not go into the walls and I'm not sure I can go under the carpet so I'm just curious if the wiremold type stuff is my only option. I'd like to get it done for less than the hundreds of dollars worth of this stuff I'm estimating I need, but I know this is probably just a dream.

Thanks guys.

Other options:

· Go through the attic.
· Hollow out a channel behind the baseboards
· Just leave the wire on the floor, but bundle it up in split loom
· Use some sort of wireless tx/rx gear

Going through the attic is just one step shy of doing wall fishes, which you said you didn't want to do. Baseboard thing = ton of pain in the ass. Split loom is easiest and cheapest, but may have low WAF. Wireless is unreliable, especially considering God and everybody in your complex is probably broadcasting WiFi pollution.

What's the deal with running under the carpet? In my ht room, I've got a ton of wires buried in the seam between the carpet and the baseboard: two pair of 16 gauge speaker wire, USB active extension cable, mono subwoofer cable, a remote trigger wire, and a phone line. I just crammed them in one at a time, and each has shoved its predecessor ever father under the carpet.

Your biggest drawback is that you are in an apartment; you don't own it. I doubt you can get into an attic.
You don't want to modify anything before you contact the owner/manager what you can and cannot do to the space.

Hmm I'm thinking just getting the raceway stuff might be the best option for an apartment. Although the price might mean I'll have to do it in multiple phases.

Can you go wireless for any of it?
For the rear surrounds it's a maybe. I have to check on my amplifier situation. The sub I probably could and wouldn't really miss anything if the wireless stuff started rolling off at 20hz. In fact it would probably be better for an apt. I'll have to around a bit and see what I've got.

Any suggestions for wireless stuff? Still in the car and already over my data limit for the month so I'd rather not go surfing the inter web ATM.

You could just sell your laptop. Then you could afford to buy the entire apartment complex and poke as many holes in the walls as you want.

I'm still curious to know what makes burying under the carpet impractical. If you can't cram your wires in the seam between the baseboard and carpet, then you could use a fish magnet like this:

How much was your damage deposit? If the cost of the raceway is greater than that, then losing your damage deposit would be the bigger bargain. :)

Probably best to look around, as I haven't done that in a few years. I was really looking into it before the end of 2008 when I was finally able to run flat speaker wire under my new carpet.

I do have a SubCast that I bought a while ago. Don't use it, but maybe some day. It currently costs about twice as much on Amazon ($250 right now) as I paid for it. Seemed to work when I tried it out, though. That's way more than it would be worth to you, though, I imagine.

That's some terrible advice right there. Don't ask nothin'. You can forget the DD anyway so tear into them walls if need be. I bet it's some sort of lame texture they use to hide lack of ability so you can never ever do an invisible patch. Those talentless f^%&s made it so that everybody that comes after looks like an @ssclown too.

Anyway, Home Depot has on wall wire molding solutions that look alright if they're neatly installed.

I bet they can come after him if the repair is greater than the deposit. And, they can claim most anything to fix that they think you damaged.
