Continuing the long tradition of showing that Microsoft cannot count:

"Xbox 1 > Xbox 360 > Xbox One"

"Windows 1.0 > 2.0; 2.x > 3.0; 3.1; 3.11 > 95 > 98; SE > ME > NT5 > XP > 6 > 7 > 8 > 10"

I don't follow your reasoning, first of all, Windows NT is not a descendant from Windows ME ...
Windows NT was a totally new development where the core OpenVMS team came from Digital Equipment into Microsoft, lead by Dave Cutler to make the Original Windows NT release, so ME was the last release of the original Windows line....

You seemed to forget NT 3, NT 3.5, NT 3.51 and NT 4.0, there was never a 6, but Vista :-D

Why there is no Windows 9?
According to Joe Belifore at Microsoft, Windows 10 is made for 10 types of people ...

Personally I count like this: 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110, 111 1000, 1001 and so on

according to early reviews - some of common sense was put back in to it
Windows 10 Technical Preview: Hands On
Hands-on with the Windows 10 Start menu—as big or as small as you want it | Ars Technica

I would probably wait till it's final and I see most of businesses would wait till sp1. MS plan and I could see why - is to replace all older Windows with version 10.
I have on numerous occasions used early revisions of windows and not really ever had instability issues or problems with the OS, if there were any issues, it would be with third party applications that did not work properly... First time I did this was with a pre-beta1 version of Windows Server 2003, (Almost two years before the production version) that I used on my laptop back then ...... worked without a hitch....

The server versions of Windows are as rock-solid as can be..... I will probably also look at the Windows Server Technical preview, and install this on a home server

As far as I know, Microsoft uses the early versions themselves in the production systems....

I will probably step away from Ubuntu on my main home laptop and migrate to Windows 10, at least this is really tempting.

If Microsoft can succeed with the vision of a single unified platform for all H/W, then they're doing something noone ever did and, not even Apple is there and probably will never be...
Microsoft has an enormous momentum and I am really excited about some of the things they're doing now :p

Not me. Sitting here typing on the Win8.1 laptop, which I keep around only for apps I can't get for a Mac, with Norton's top of the line software running, I have a virus that is affecting my typing. Windows is the most unreliable software I have ever used. I am amazed by how bad it is.

I ditched Windows a couple years ago and haven't looked back. I really do not like Windows 8. I installed the Windows 10 Preview in Parallels on my Mac and it does look like a big improvement over 8. I would call it Windows 7 with a fresh coat of paint. They did make some nice improvements on the desktop side of Windows 8 particularly in Explorer and those are carried through in Windows 10.

It looks nice but I've already become an all Mac house and I don't see that changing.

Gotta love Macs, but IMHO they have no place in the regular office (not special functions like creative departments), at least not until there would a REAL contender to combined power Outlook & Exchange server.
I said it before and will say it again - Biz people who have Macs laps ALL have windows in parallels at least for using windows version of office - Is it really that different from simply using windows lap from the getgo ?

I agree with everyone who say Win8 is terrible. Win10 LOOKS like a solid improvement. I will reserve final judgement till I play with it myself.

I have Windows 7 installed in Parallels on my Mac but the only thing I use it for is the URC CCP software for programming my remotes. I thought I'd use it for more things but I have found Mac programs to do everything I need.

Me too, but there are apps that don't like MACs even with VMMs. I have two, so I'm stuck with one Windows laptop.

I typically turn on this laptop only every few weeks, and it takes about an hour to stabilize every time, what with Windows updates and restarts and security software updates and scanning. It took me an hour of debugging and cleaning to get rid of the latest nonsense, which came with a download of Firefox, from what appeared to be a safe site. Chrome was suddenly unusable, Firefox was taken over by some weird search site, and it appeared my internet browsing was being redirected through a proxy site. With my Mac I've never had a problem, and I occasionally run a full scan just to check, which finds nothing. Right now I'm pretty disappointed in both Microsoft and Norton.

I use a Mac in the office with Windows 7 running in Parallels; best of both worlds. At home, I use Bootcamp and other machines run Linuxmint.

I've been using it for a week now it's much more stable than 8 was for me.

Irv: If you want to run windows in a stable way you should employ "proper" windows, meaning the Microsoft windows, OEM versions are full of bloatware and not working well, especially HP is notorious is this sense!

Are you using MS version of Windows or OEM version? Makes a big difference!

I was running windows 10 tech preview for quite a while on my home Laptop, but I deinstalled yesterday, and got back to Ubuntu 14.

Now there's been all this talks and promotion about the new version of the tech preview with all these added features, like search bar and Cortana ....
Guess what:
- search features does not work, because it's not active in Europe
- Cortana does not work, because it's not active in Europe
Lots of talk about nothing, so windows 10 out the window :p

So at home now I do have a Dell XPS 16 with Ubuntu 14 and a HP Chromebook 11 and an Android phone, and a legacy Asus Eee netbook with Linux Mint.... My home server runs a custom SUSE Linux Enterprise Server appliance.... so it 5 * Linux .... On my work computer I have no choice as corporate policies dictate Lenovo and Windows 7 ...

Never got to use Macbook, but would be very happy to try :p

Linus, you're the man :D

You must be visiting all sorts of sites that are vectors for all kinds of issues. All the people I fix these kinds of issues for are either opening and clicking on every email link and visiting sites that are just asking for issues. This is NOT the normal.

Imma gonna quote myself for i was 100% on point.
Ms announced that win10 will be FREE upgrade from 7 and 8 (upgrade in place for both) for one year since release.
They clearly want to remove os fragmentation.
