Just a note for any ".edu" people out there in a CS, CPE, SWE, or CIS type major, you might be able to get Win 7 Professional for free if your university has a MSDN agreement. I've been running it for several months now (for free) :)

files and such

Any time you're going to make a change to an OS you should always backup your files to a non-attached source. Personally, I've got two drives in my desktop. When it comes time to install a new system I'm going to end up buying a third, external, to move everything onto and then do the backup. There are bound to be screwups either by the end-user or a glitch in the process.

On a side note - I've been told that you can find MSOffice (Pro?) for $60 or something close to that at the same site.

Yes, the ultimate steal is what it's called.

So it's just an upgrade an not a complete version? Does this mean you can't do a clean install? ie. You must have Vista installed first, then upgrade to Windows 7

No, I thought you needed Vista myself as well. But it will do a clean install.
