Wimpy sissy girly speakers

I recenlty purchased the Mirage MX series for our family room since wife didn't want big speakers all over the room (thats for the theater room ).

Since our home is being built I decided to pull 3 of this little sissy speakers out and hook them up (Front left, right and center) along with the MM6 sub in our 24'x15' open living / kitchen area.

Low and behold these speakers sound pretty darn amazing!! The sub actually is the best part of the setup / package. I could not believe the bass that come out of the MM6 sub and then these little mites of what Mirage calls "speakers" are very detail in dialog.

~~ However w/o the sub to me they are just treble speakers and not much more than that. So a sub in use is highly recommended.

I also can turn these speakers around in the opposite direction and it does not really seem to loose any dialog / detail. The omnipolar actually does work and does a very good job at it too!!

Since my backside will not be much in the family room, but these speakers will be a nice step than any using either a soundbar or main speakers out of our 70" Sharp will give, plus they are WAF. Newegg had a great deal on these a few months ago and I jumped on it and don't regret the purchase.

Cheers

Like most guys, I never cared to even look at measurements of these girly speakers.

The latest HTM issue reviewed the tiny Orb speakers, so I thought, "Hey, I want to get a good laugh!":D

But to my surprise, this was what I saw:

The Orb measured 200Hz-9kHz +/-2.5dB. And +2.84/-2.04dB from 200Hz - 16kHz.

Really? How could it measure that well?

So I looked at some of the other girly speakers:

The Bose Acoustimass Cube measures 280 Hz to 13.3k Hz at +/- 10.5 dB (S&V Magazine).:D

The rest are from HTM:

The Mirage MX measures +2.36/–12.13 decibels :D from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

Morel Nova measures +5.12/–11.10 dB :D from 200 Hz to 10 kHz.

Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS measures +7.97/–3.73 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The Energy RC-Micro Sat’s listening- window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.14/–5.06 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The Morel SP-2’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +3.44/–2.65 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The Cambridge Audio Min10’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +4.82/–3.37 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

Mirage Omnisat measures +2.64/-5.05 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

Infinity TSS-750's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +3.01/–1.26 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

Pioneer HTS-GS1 measures +3.06/–2.51 decibels from 300 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The Anthony Gallo A`Diva Ti's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.45/–3.97 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The KEF HTS3001 listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +2.07/–3.53 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The KEF HTS1001.2’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +2.28/–2.53 decibels from 300 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The Canton CD 220's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.15/–2.42 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

The Focal Dome measures +1.04/–2.43 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz.

So the Canton & Focal are definitely the better ones.

But now I know that Orb ain't half bad. They are much, much better than Bose.:D

Alright, guys, I made an error.

It was the Orb Mod2 (which is a rip off $570/pr) that measures well.

The standard Orb Mod1 ($240/pr, still rip off) is like ~ +4.5dB/ -2.3dB.

My bad.

My mind started going after I became a member of AH and started buying speakers and amps.

Now I'm certified. And I don't just mean my professional license or CPR certification or anything good.

Outdoor speakers

I also thought outdoor speakers all suck. I was wrong.

These Niles OS6.5 speakers ($370/pr) measure +1.80/-1.98dB from 200Hz-10kHz!

Omnisats

I thought the Mirage Omnisats were pretty well liked around here. I was going to get a 5.1 Mirage system, then decided I wanted towers.

Talking with my MOL yesterday she said she was looking at pair of Bose at HHGregg. I told her she should look into the Omnisats instead.

Well, at least the Mirage has an excuse for having unconventional measurements like all the omnipole speakers. :D

The Orion measures flat, but it's a dipole, not omnipole.

So dipole, bipole, and monopole have no excuses, but omnipole gets the hall pass excuse. :D

How much is that Mirage system?
