HONG KONG, March 28 (Reuters) - Ms. Chen of Forgings Industrial Co. Ltd. announced at meeting of shareholders that the company has entered into an agreement to manufacture cabinetry for Wilson Audio, a US manufacturer of high-end speaker systems. "We are pleased to leverage our expertise in expert cabinet design in order to be the sole supplier of the special cabinet construction required for the esteemed Wilson line. Previously, we had only supplied for a portion of Wilson's business. They are quite pleased with our attention to detail and state of the art CNC milling machines. In these difficult times, many companies have come to us to control costs in a marketplace that is seeing costs rise significantly due to oil and raw material constraints. We are exploring other areas where we can provide services of mutual benefit."

Forgings Industrial was established in 1962 and is an exporter as well as manufacturer. They currently have sales in excess of US$100,000,000 and exports to all parts of the world.

That's great news for all high-end customers. I'm certain Wilson will reduce the prices of their entire line to reflect the lower cabinet acquisition cost.

Do they currently price any of their speakers at below $5,000? What would be the typical price ratio for cabinet to the rest of the cost of a speaker for something like Wilson's, or the Phil's if you don't mind telling..:D

I think we can assume any price movements for Wilson will be up, not down. They no doubt obtain cabinets more cheaply than I can, although I'm not saying the absolute cost is less since theirs are more elaborate. For the Phil 3's, the ratio of cabinet cost to total cost is approximately 1:3.

The only high priced speaker whose cabinet is justifiably expensive which I know of is the B&W 800 series, I mean just look at Stereophile's measurement:

If there is a more inert cabinet anywhere I have not heard of it. You basically need a solid marble cabinet to beat that.

I agree. In terms of cabinet quality, I have not seen prettier cumulative spectral decay measurements than the 800s.

Even worse. It's one I recycled from a few years ago that I posted on AVS.

Nope. Doesn't matter. It has to be April 1 for the suckers. We can't be expected to practice due diligence if it isn't midnight yet. It's known.
