Will you pay $500 for hardware upgrade from AVR-4806 to AVR-4806CI?

Greetings:

I've read that I can have my AVR-4806 (bought for $1000) to an AVR-4806CI. Basically, this upgrade allows for Internet Radio through the Ethernet port, 1080p scaling, and provides 1080p HDMI video switching capability. I don't care about Ethernet Radio; however, is 1080p scaling and 1080p HDMI video switching is critical? If it were you will you perform this upgrade?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

I wouldn't pay it even if it meant an upgrade to HDMI 1.3 switching. You got a nice buy on a good unit. Save your $500 and run the video feeds directly to the flat screen.

Thanks for the input and advice.

Do you mean I will need to hook up the HDMI from the source directly to the flat screen bypassing the receiver HDMI input and output?

According to Denon customer service, the HDMI on the 4806 is already 1080p passthru. I still don't understand what switching and scaling functionality are. Assuming that if my source and display both support 1080p, will I still need scaling and switching?

The video scaling will simply upscale anything that's fed to the receiver to the resolution that you select - for instance, if the receiver and display are set to 720P, a 480i signal from your VCR will be upscaled to 720P and fed to the output (usually component or HDMI) that you set up for your display. The receiver will also pass through 1080P if that's what's fed to it (and your display can use it). There aren't many 1080P displays or sources yet, so it may not be relevant at this stage of the game. I'd save my money - like Buckeyefan said here, you got a $3500 receiver for a grand. That's a steal.

Streaming audio+video with Denon 4806CI

I'm considering purchasing the Denon 4806CI as well. In addition to being able stream audio using the PlayforSure, any idea if you can stream video content from the internet and route the signal to a display connected to the receiver HDMI/component/etc connectors ?

Thanks

Where'd Ya Get It For a Grand!?

Been drooling over the 4806 for about a year now; only problem, that $3500 price tag. Man, I gotta know: where did you get it for $1000? That's gotta be the bargain of the year! Have you had any problems with it?
