Will this driver work?

hello everyone,

I have been looking at 10inch subwoofer drivers at parts express to replace the broken 10inch subwoofer in my brother sub. Thats a mouth full. I found this one

http://www.parts express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-460 (just get rid of the space).

and it seems to fit the bill in everyway, but I don't know how wide it is. The opening in my brothers subwoofer is 10inches wide (inculding screw area and lip for driver to sit on), and 8inches deep. Its an 11 3/4inch cubed sealed enclosure and made of 1inch MDF and has 6 screw holes in it already. Its a great box, and has a 400watt amp for a single voice coil driver. I just need to find a driver.

Thanks for the help,
sheep

That unit will more than fit the bill. It might even be overkill. So the enclosure is ~.6 cu ft? You don't say what type of load the amp will drive, there are some great DVC units out there that will work too like:
parts express #293-310

or a single VC that will sound good:
or #295-550

can you repost the links, i can't tell what one they are.

The amp has only on set of wires, so i don't know if it can drive a DVC driver. I also don't know how much it can driver either.

thanks,
sheep

EDIT: The driver can not have a larger diameter then 10inches total, including everything, it will not fit if its any bigger. It also can't be any deeper then 8 inches.

I changed the links to part #'s. What is the model and brand of the amp? You need to make sure it will drive the load you intend to use it with.

Brian,

I would, but the driver diameter is too large

it cannot be any larger then 10inches flat. I know pheonix gold makes great car audio equipment, but that one won't fit.

The broken sub has all its issues with the voicecoil. The spider and surround are still in tact. The subwoofer just got to hot and broke, or what ever occurs when a subwoofer gets hot.

Ok, there must be a inset groove that you are measuring.
Well, there are other companies, with tons of drivers to look at/if you want me to give you links I could?

Here you go Sheep. Start here, Buck and I had posted a lot of speaker driver links in this post. Some with decent drivers, most companies will have a rating for the size box it will work best with. And I think Mac, has already done the math for you. So you are looking for a driver that will work best in a 0.6 cf sealed enclosure...

LOOK AT POST NUMBERS #47 through 54

If you need more links, I will help you find them. And I will search for drivers that are made to sound good in that size requirement..
