Will the FiiO E09K work well with the Sennheiser HD 650 Headphones? Maybe I should get another DAC? I don't need the FiiO's dock.

I hope so, I have an E09K, and have the HD650s arriving via UPS tomorrow... :)

Only difference is that I have an E17 as well, so am planning to use that docked as the DAC. What source/DAC are you using with the E09K, or have you decided on a different combo altogether since this was posted??

Well, the FiiO E09K will be great amp for 650's , but what is your source? E09k without the this is just a headphone amp
I recommend AudioEngine D1. 650's are rated at nominal 300 Ohm impedance and D1 is rated from 20 to 300 omh
With D1's 30 days home trial it will be easy to return if you don't like it's performance

Will the D1 work with my low-impedance HiFiMAN HE-500 headphones?

The D1 includes a headphone amp based around the TI NE5532 low noise opamp. This headphone amp is able to provide low-impedance, high-fidelity audio to a wide range of headphones and supports headphones with impedances from 20 to 300ohms.
