Will next years recievers have 1080p/i in/outs?

I'm in the market for my first surround sounds receiver. Leaning towards some of the newer products from Pioneer and Yamaha in the $500 price range. I also plan on buying a LCD TV towards the end of this year. So my question is, doesn't it even make sense to buy a new receiver or do I go with an older top of the line 5.1 channel and wait for the receivers that will have 1080i/p ins and outs?

What say you?

Great! So what happens when HDMI 1.3 is unveiled within 2 years?

Adapters, converters, loss of quality etc.

Wouldn't be great to spend $1099 now and in 2 years not be able to get $100 back on your investment. I already own a car!

that's why my next purchase will be a pre/pro like Anthm or the upcoming
Denon unit. That way I can spend a chuck of money up front and then take
advantage of their generous upgrade programs as they occur...

1080p over HDMI on the Yamaha V2600?

I was told by the local Yami Rep (for what it is worth) that the V2600 should pass 1080p through its HDMI ports. I specifically asked so I can use the Yami to switch PS3 / Media Player with 1080p oututs (as well as upscale the anaologe stuff to 1080i) then pass to a 1080p display. I've just got my V2600 but don't have the 1080p input (or display yet - more $$$).

Can anyone confirm that the V2600 passes 1080P over HDMI?

Thanks
Nathan

It does BUT the BIG QUESTION, that no one has an answer to, is will your V2600 be compatible with HDMI 1.3? Based on the exisiting technology upgrade path of USB and firewire, I'm going to guess that version 1.3 of the HDMI plug will be completely different than the HDMI plug that is on the V2600.

Thus making your $1000.00 obsolete within 2 years. Well done on the purchase, I hope it lasts longer than that. But it probably won't, why? Because that is what capitalism is all about. "They screw you at the drive through."

If you want to have the latest technology all the time you will need to spend the money over and over again or be like most of the rest of us and buy the best you can afford now and wait as long as you can stand it and then do it over again.

You can never really tell what the future will bring. You will drive yourself nuts trying to future proof your purchases.

Good luck, have fun, let us know what you buy and how much you like it.
