The couple of things I've read, granted very prelim, seemed to be talking about a whole new thing... they were even lamenting a potential new format war between competing companies though much of the new standard has been agreed to.
I don't want to speak out of my butt on this, but I got the fairly strong impression we were talking new players, new tv's, new discs, new connections. They were first going to come out with 2 power, followed by 4X... kinda the way 720 migrated to 1080 I guess.
Either way, it's a ways off and will hopefully coincide with new display technology like OLED which should be leaps and bound better for that kind of resolution. I was wondering how a lamp based tv would even be capable of that. The main computer guy for my group was talking about the conference he went to and they were touting OLED in a big way for video conferencing and other business applications. Sony supposedly is on the way to solving the shelf life problem of the TV which seemed to be one of the major issues with OLED.
