Wife is complaining about the number of remotes.

IOTW I gotta find me something to do universal with. Problem is I got of non standard components like an HD tuner, a PJ and a PS3 so my receiver looks like a no go. I was considering a used logitech harmony, but thought I might see what you guys got going.

I need something I can program for 1 touch operation.

I know it's simple, but hey it beat the constant what's the best speaker/receiver questions.

Look at the URC MX-900. You can do puch-through commands (like volume, mute and anything that needs to be the same for using all sources), macros, delays and if needed, you can use an RF receiver with addressable outputs. If you can find an MX-850, that will work, too but it's an older model and requires that the computer used for programming has a serial port. I use a USB-serial adaptor for these. I like the URC because I don't need to worry about connecting to someone's website for this.

My wife loves her Harmony 1000 and it solves my RF operation problem at the same time.

And since it is for her, you can get away with spending as much as you need to to make her happy!!!!

It has learning ,macros and pre-programmed. Addition benefit is you can hide equipment behind closed doors.

Very easy to set-up and has good WAF because she can use it easily.

Youcaneasliy map volume on all devices( screens) and have one macro button to power off or all devices.

As much as I hate Harmony for the way they don't communicate with dealers (i.e., people like me) and all of the problems I had with the 1000 when it first came out, I really do like that model. It's also easy to map buttons within each activity and to customize the layout. I set up two of them for one customer and when I was there one day, their daughter told him that she didn't like going to her cousin's house because she didn't like the way their system worked. She had turned 3 that summer and had no problem operating the DVD functions, even of it was off at the time.

So I offered em up to some forum members on another site for free and Harmony in all their wisdom heard about my problems and offered me two 670 universal remotes that use batteries, and me and my GF are in remote heaven.

My GF (who at times if she can walk and chew gum at the same time amazes me) loves the ease of use of the Harmony and I love the internet setup features and when I add more gear it's very easy to "upgrade". Please note that the Harmony will not work the PS3 unless you buy the PS3 IR adaptor.

I have had an 880 for about 20 months and never had an issue with the charger. It always goes on the dock when not in use and it works fine. The only "problem" I've had with it, is that sometimes it'll "forget" to turn a component on (probably because it wasn't pointed correctly), or not set the correct TV input, but that's easily resolved. My wife however, as bright as she is, can't grasp how to sort out problems with the "HELP" menu. It irritates her, which in turn irritates me, because I have to come in and fix it for her before she throws it across the room.

As with the previous poster, mine sometimes forgets to turn something on or off, but the help button takes care of that quickly. There was absolutely no way I would spend what URC wants for the same remote capability. A dealer quoted me around $900.

If you have more than 6 devices, the 900 won't do everything.

Then your dealer is either clueless or doesn't like/know how to program URC remotes. They program in a completely different way but it's not that hard to learn it. The URC MX-850 will do everything the 890 does. He may not sell it but it will do it all. It lists at $399, which is the same as the 890, IIRC. This means the MX-900 is also about the same price. What model did he say would cost $900?

I don't remember what model URC he was pushing. It was at Tweeter before they went under. I remember they had a brochure with all the prices. The programming was around $600.

I got my 890 w/RF extender on sale at Best Buy for $240.

Another plug for Logitech-I'm sure the Harmony name was chosen for a good reason It's certainly helped to maintain "harmony" in my household with my wife.

+1 for the Harmony 1000. Bought mine for $250 with RF base, NIB on AVS. Their customer support is terrific, which is refreshing.
