Anybody know why this site seems to completely ignore NAD. They make some good stuff. I see about 15 receiver reviews between denon and yamaha and 0 NAD.

Nada for NAD !

I guess we're the only ones having them...

NAD hasn't had much to report (recently) until now. We did some CES coverage and will try to get their new receivers for review ASAP.

How 'bout a retro review with NAD luddite technology. Not too long ago, I got a vintage NAD 1020, a preamp so old it didn't have a CD input, in mint condition with the box and manual for $120. I got it for a vinyl based system. Plugged into a vintage Carver 400 WPC amp, a Dual turntable and a pair of old Vandersteen speakers, this system cranks. Vinyl based stereo at its best. Not exactly home theater, but somebody remembers NAD.

I haven't kept up with NAD lately. 20 years ago they had awesome amps.
I've been looking at receivers lately (mine is slowly dieing, one digital input at a time). But when I looked at the current nad lineup they seem pretty nice. They seem to drop out of all the crazy dsp/hdmi/video processing/silly stuff race and stick to putting the money into the audio side.

In general, it seems to me the whole video switching in the reciever thing is a giant red-herring waste of time. In order to avoid switching the input on the tv, we waste about 1/2 the cost in the average denon/yamaha.

Any other suggestions for receivers that just focus on 2 and 5 channel audio? Some one pointed me at rotel.

NAD 7600 "Power Envelope" Receiver

I have an NAD 7600 rcvr that has been slightly messed up ever since I tried to reset the 9Mhz/10Mhz AM switch nearly 15 years ago. (For anyone who might not know, in Europe the AM band is divided into 9Mhz segments; in the U.S. we use 10Mhz segments. I used it in a 9Mhz environment before moving to the U.S. in 1993.)

I made the mistake of pulling off the front panel and apparently "squeezed" something or got it misaligned when putting it back. The balance and volume controls work off solenoids, and ever since that time the balance control is just about uncontrollable. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes of jiggling to get balanced sound out of both speakers, and then it might drift off after a few minutes. It has made it very dicey trying to dub music from the receiver into my Mac; one channel often is "empty." The volume control is a little tight, but it works. Otherwise the receiver performs beautifully.

Currently the receiver is setting on a bench in the garage. I took it apart and looked it over again, but couldn't see the 9Mhz/10Mhz switch. The balance control unit seems buried behind the front panel, and I don't think I have the nerve to take it off again without knowing more about it.

About 3-4 years ago I sent email to someone at or affiliated with NAD asking for take-apart info, but never got a reply.

Does anyone have any experience working inside this receiver?
