Why is my receiver dumb....or is it the operator?

My Yamaha v663 never selects the right audio input when I switch between, BD, Apple TV(Both connected with HDMI) and my direct TV(Component). Even when set to Auto detect it will not switch over and I have to manually do so. Kind of defeats the purpose of the one button operation with the Harmony remote. I don't see any options in the Harmony setup to do this either. Any fix to this or do I need to jump up the AVR ladder?

Which Harmony? I read that you can't program your own macros on some of them, but I believe a macro would be the way to sovle this 100%. Does the 663 let you assign digital inputs to specific devices? Not selecting the audio on HDMI is the weird part...

I'm not familiar with your receiver, but most modern receivers offer assignable inputs that must be setup in the receiver's setup menu. You have to tell the receiver that a specific audio input is associated with a specific video input. If both audio and video are being input via HDMI, try and disable all the other inputs for each of the video inputs, if possible.

That is a good point. You can typically set the priority for the audio if you have multiple audio connections for a given device. Do you happen to have any hooked up via analog on the same input (not multichannel input)? My receiver allows analog or digital on the same input and can be set to give priority to one and ignore the other and there is a button on the remote to toggle between the two - kind of an odd thing, but I have actually used it a few times.

I'm using a Harmony 880. Yes it allows for digital input assignments. Let me get home and take a look at my connections.

You can reassign more than one video/audio input for each source button, but the higher quality source will always take precedent. Therefore, if you want to use one source button for more than one input, make sure the higher quality unit is turned off when you want to use the lower quality input.
Example: I have my Wii and PS2 hooked up to vcr (PS2 analog (yellow) video to vcr analog video, ps2 optical to optical 3, wii video to component C, wii audio to vcr audio). If both are on at the same time, I will get PS2 optical audio and wii component video.

Well this little problem will have to wait for another day, I've been in the ER with the wife since I got off work. She's doing better.

She's having some complications from an out-patient procedure she had a week ago. She's doing better now but we're going to be here until the pain is in control.

Good to hear she's doing better. While you're waiting with her in the hospital you might want to go home and grab the manual for the receiver and then you have some reading material in her room. It also might help you solve your problems.

Complications suck. I had some residual from my surgery last Jan and it took months for it to fully go away on its own. Good to hear she is doing fine.

I was going to pull it up on my laptop while I was there but she got released around 11:00pm so I didn't have time to mess around with it. Tonight....hopefully.

Hope she is doing better man.

The receiver should have assignable processing modes for each input.

It also has audio source options for each input in the OSD menu. I have never had this issue when changing sources.

If you are still having issues I can take a look when I get home and let you know exactly how it should be set.

I'll tackle it tonight, the one issue that really annoys me is that when I do make hit the "watch TV" activity after using my Blu-ray player to switch back to my DirectTV is that it will correctly switch the audio over for about 15-20 seconds then for whatever reasons switches again on it's own.
