Why do I enjoy listening to my car's stock speakers more than $2000 bookshelves???

Right - I do not enjoy music as much in the auto - and for sure not with stock speakers,
The Delco speakers got fired, they lean towards mellow with more of an artificial sound
character.

Some how the OP is enjoying the surround effect with the car for the Classical music.

I would get another pair (if could be found) of the Vera speakers for home use - and
try the set-up in surround mode for Classical music. If one can not find the Vera >>
then the Alexxa 1B should come close.
Yeah, maybe find a 6' x 6' closet and wire 4-6 speakers in series. :D

2. The music coming out of the veras is focused, concise and detailed but the music (at least in my setup) sound like it's coming from speakers. The music is directly in front of me rather than all around and I can pinpoint its source. It also seem constrained a bit, more so at lower volumes...keep in mind this is only for classical music. Other genres are in a different league.
Well for one thing you are near-field and only using two speakers vs extra speakers and surround sound
in your vehicle when driving.

The Vera speakers can throw a nice dimensional soundstage in 2 channel mode, and music comes all around
for the front stage, along with good precise central imaging and no closed in, or muddy sound - and all the
instruments and voices sound nice, even the Violin - however, they do not bring the surround effects (subsitute
the sound) that would come from rear speakers as in a car.

Your close set-up that is nearfied in your new small room, and the different reflections from objects around you,
can be causing some problems.

All in all, if one feels they need to change speakers - then nothing wrong with that. However, it may not be so
easy, finding an all around replacement for what you have.

Sounds like this is the key point. Stereo at home vs. Surround or Multi Channel Stereo in the car.
Listening to stereo at home, there is most definitely a "stage" in front from which the sound comes. Voices and instruments can be located on the "stage".
If you car has a "Fade" control, try turning it all the way such that it turns off the rear speakers. Do you like that better or worse? If worse, maybe your answer at home is surround or multi channel stereo.

That would be the haas effect you're experiencing in the car, what with reflections from every direction. You may want to look into omni speakers like the Linkwitz Pluto.
