Whose PB 13 Ultra Video does this belong to?

Yeah, I'd like to know too. That way when I go to buy a used one I don't buy that one. Looks like they abused the snot out of it. Having the woofer surround crinkle like that can't be good.

Yeah. He's overdriving it.

That is abusive.
I do not know what else I can say about that except my cats like to sleep right in front of my speakers when they are cranking. Sometimes when I take my grills off the little creatures will get in through the ports. I hate it when they do that. I usually have to sonically chase them out:(

I believe the term is "pucker". Nearly all rubber surrounded woofers can/do suffer this affliction near peak excursion levels. It is not particularly damaging in any way unless there is severe mechanical non-linearities.

The only woofers that do not suffer these problems I am aware of are from JL Audio. They have a patent pending manufacturing process though.

Most yes, I am referring to the W3v3's & W1v2's.
right. i was thinking of the W7's :)

the w3's have the w7 looks without the w7 price. if i hadn't gone for the w7's, i would have gone for the w3's.

We need the SVS Rep/member here to watch the video and comment on the surround and excursion. The "Ultra" (What SVS calls the PB13-Ultra driver) isn't wimpy by any standards that I know of.

I know my Ultra can pressurize the hell out of my room with no distortion. And I've NEVER come close to bottoming out the driver. I've blown enough ported JBL Floorstanders 12's to know what bottoming out sounds like. Ahh, yesteryear

No one is saying the driver is of poor manufacture or is not capable. It is a very well designed and engineered sub.

I am quite sure that the Ultra is of a "bottomless" design meaning that the motor will run out of steam just before any mechanical contact/suspension failure would take place. Most quality sub woofer designs follow this model now days.

Most people of an objective midset would agree that the W7 is a superior driver in most aspects.

The W3v3's do not quite have the W7 linearity or output capabilities as well. :D although they are very good considering their price.

Regardless of the type of surround, the guy has a couple of issues. One is he's playing in 15 Hz tune, and the other is the song. It is a song that has tons of very low bass. The way he has his sub set up is "pushing" the driver to its excursion limit. I think the 15 Hz tune is a bad idea for that song. I've never seen that with my Ultra even with the same song, so I'm not entirely sure what's up with his Ultra other than to much volume/incorrect tuning. I also wonder if he has the subsonic filter set correctly.

We have no idea how loud it was in there. You can make anything blow up eventually, or at least hit protection.

Plus everyone knows the (well, my) industry standard for excursion is Three 3 Mafia - "Late Nite Tip" ... so none of the Bassmechanic garbage. ;)
