So, I have been searching and searching trying to make heads or tails of the information I have consumed! So I figured I'd give a stab at posting. Hubby and I are doing whole house audio and I am lost as to what peice of equipment to purchase. We have 12 pairs of interior speakers and 2 pairs for outside. The 12 pairs inside include:

2 pairs in the garage (1 keypad)
1 pair in the den (keypad)
1 pair in the hall on the main level (keypad)
1 pair in the kitchen
1 pair in the family room (keypad and is connected to the kitchen)
1 pair in the upper hall
1 pair in the bonus/craft room (keypad)
1 pair in the master bed (keypad)
1 pair in the master bath and (keypad)
2 pair in the basement (1 keypad)

I don't want to fork out a ton of cash for the receiver, but at the same time, I don't want junk either. so can I connect 2 pairs of speakers to one keypad location?. I don't know what hubby was thinking when he designated locations for everything....and I don't think he does either. So any thoughts on our set up? I want they LCD keypads and not just volume controls. Each of the keypad boxes have been cat 5 wired. I think that's everything about our set up. Any suggestions would be helpful at this point :)

Thanks

Whole house system

You have a large and complex system and should consult with local installers and dealers of Russound, Niles, etc.
If you can narrow your list to 12 pairs of speakers, you can get two 6-zone distrbution amps ($1k+ each) and keypads for each room ($100+ each).
These amps will connect to your HT receiver, CD player, DVD, Ipod, etc. to select any source in any room via the keypads.
