Even though she had a good album (in total sales), she isn't omnipresent.
After
Come Away With Me was released it stayed on the charts for 2 years. You couldn't shop in any store in north America without hearing
Don't Know Why being pumped through the muzak system. When M. Jackson released
Thriller it sold 20+
million copies. Everyone you know owned three copies of it. And nobody knew about these people2 weeks before they went on sale Jackson was, of course, in
The Jackson Five, but wasn't what anyone would call a star, and they certainly didn't sell tens of millions of albnums).
Yet when you get a TV show with a bajillion people watching, voting for potentially the best singer in the country, you might expect their CDs to sell like hotcakes. But so far as soon as the show ends for the season, people seem to forget all about them. And even with the best talent (and a hefty recording budget) the albums are all pretty blah. Sure Kelly might have had good sales, but the CD still sounds like poo with all its dynamic reduction and voice effects (shes a good singer, why process it??).
You'd think that the winner of A.I. would put-out the next
Dark Side Of The Moon, but so far we just get the latest flash-in-the-pan.
