Here's an update on my "putting". I no longer need to put that word in quotes because, after going to the course for some practice and missing randomly to one side or the other, I gave up on the cross-handed grip that had originally helped so much. I stood there, closed my eyes, gripped the putter with whatever felt "right" and moved my feet to a comfortable position. When I opened my eyes again, I saw that I had placed the putter just inside of my right heel and my stance was very open (my feet were about 1-1/2' apart and my left toes were about even with my right heel if a line was drawn parallel to the ball's path. My right foot would be square to the path). I started by finding a path to the cup that would have no break (I thought that if I can make straight putts by trusting my aim, I should be able to make the ones that break if I read them properly). I began from about 15' away and started making them consistently after I stopped taking so long, giving myself the chance to second-guess every putt. I have lost my yips, I trust me reads and the number of one putt holes has increased dramatically. I have made the vast majority of my straight putts and the ones I didn't were due to corrent line but wrong distance. I have more birdies and pars than ever before and since I got some help with my grip, my drives are longer and in the fairway much more often. I have putted for eagle 4 times, even on holes approaching 600 yards.
I'm a happy camper. That means, the game of golf has me right where it wants me.
