Thank you for the explanation. Do any of you have any suggestions for amps other than the Emotiva XPA5 or would that be best? I am assuming connecting all 5 speakers to an external amp would be the best solution?

I think you could use an external amp to just drive your Martin Logan's. I would use this amp to drive them.

This amp was designed with electrostatic speakers in mind. It is also about the most bullet proof amp around I know of, as well as fabulous sounding amp. You get all the advantages of a class A amp with none of the disadvantages. Current dumping is a patent of the late Peter Walker and the patent is still held by Quad. By the way Peter Walker produced the world's first electrostatic speaker, what has come to be known as the Quad ESL 57 back in 1957.

He doesnt have ELS panels, he has hybrid woofer/planers.

OP, as for 5ch amps you can also look at outlaw audio as well as on audiogon for used. Pro amps from Yamaha, Crown, and Behringer could be considered also, but you would need to get 3 units. After that your looking into spending some dollars.

If it were me, Id just get the Emo and be done.
You are correct. I did not know ML were producing free standing non electrostatic loudspeakers.

My bad. I though ML only made electrostatics too. Will planer drivers still have the same load issues electrostatics do?

Overall not as hard, but still have low dips. The OPs speakers are using planers (RADIA made) for the high frequencies only. Mine have mid/high units in them. Just as a note all of the current Logan line (except the CLX series) employee hybrid technology in that the low frequencies are handled by a woofer not the panels and the low dips occur very high frequency curve. The Quads Dr. Mark was referening to were full ELS panels and need a very stable amp like the 909 he linked.

Ryan,

Did you ever solve your problem? what did you end up getting? I just bought a set of ML Prefaces (got a killer deal at BB!) and am trying to decide what receiver and/or amp I need to drive them. I bought a Denon 1910, but when I started researching the Prefaces better I quickly realized that it doesn't handle 4 ohm speakers, so I probably will be returning it (unless it can be used with an amp) I'm thinking of going with the onkyo 707 like you did. Did you look into any other receivers besides the onkyo 707? and did you end up getting the emotiva amp? What ever happened to your hissing problem?

The rest of my set up is ML Motion 2's for the rears, a ML Motion 6 for the center and a ML Dynamo 500 for the sub. I'm a newbie and this is my first HT system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Aleshka
