Just to set the record straight as you can see from my equip., I am definitely not an audiophile. I have a Denon AVR-1800, Velodyne CT-8, Polk Monitor 6 satelites 2 front and 2 rear and a CS-200 center. I just purchased the Sony 50" LCOS and Denon DVD-1920. The Denon AV can support the setup, but I am wondering if my speakers are in need of replacement. Keep in mind I will eventually replace my AV w/ a Denon 3806. I listen to HT about 65% of the time. My family room is small 12x12 which opens up to the kitchen. Kind of like a great room. The speakers are mounted on the wall near the ceiling in all four corners toed in. I want to know what would be a better set of speakers w/o breaking the bank. I would like them to sound good with Music as well as Movies.

Thanks for your input.

The original satelites are Monitor6 front and rear. They are no longer made as they are at least 10yrs old. They are a small bookshelf http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/specs/monitor6/

My base is probably ok to keep: Velodyne CT-8

Budget for satelites $700-1000. I will want to be able to listen locally, I have Ken Cranes, Magnolia Hi-Fi/Bestbuy, Genesis Audio, and Circuit City near by.

Thanks

Can you list the brands that are available to you?

Local Brands

Definitive, Polk, Paradigm, Boston, Velodyne, Bose, Infiniti. I am sure there are more, but these are the names of the brands I remember seeing. Genesis Audio supposedly carries Paradigm. This is a high-end retailer. Magnolia Hifi(now Bestbuy) has Definitive, and Boston. Bose and Polk are carried by Circuit City. Sound rooms are best at Genesis, Magnolia and Ken Cranes. I don't remember the brands at Ken Cranes. I will have to stop by there today.
