Which speakers are better

I am looking to purchase a home audio system for a maximum price of around 1300. They will be mainly used to watch movies. I would like a good system with small speakers and I have been looking at the Paradigm Cinema 90 or the Definative technology ProCinema 800 (if there is a different system with similar sized speakers please let me know). Which of these systems should I purchase? Also, could you recommend a receiver for these speakers? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

How many speakers do you want?

I personally prefer the sound of B&W speakers, but for small speakers I think the Behringer 2030p's are proven to have broad appeal and excellent bang for buck. Another option of similar sound quality, but different finish type is the Ascend Acoustic line. They use some nice corner braces to give the box a solid structure.
2nd line B&W's would be worth a listen.

Check out Amazon.com, if you don't mind a Silver finish. You can get the Definitive MYTHOs 2s for 179.00 each. Instead of the 549.00 retail. But, ONLY in SILVER. Black is still 549.00 each. I don't know how many are left. But, once their gone, their GONE!

Does the $1300 include the receiver, or just the 5.1 speakers/sub?

Why 4 speakers? You'd want 2 fronts, 1 center, 2 surrounds, and a sub for HT. Are you planning on running w/o a center channel ?

Sorry, thats correct. I would have a total of 6 speakers but I am willing to get the rear speakers at a later date if it will allow me to get much better speakers. I would be willing to spend around 1500 for the receiver and speakers

I listened to the paradigm cinema 90's a while back when looking for desktop speakers for the office. I didn't like them at all. Compared to the paradigm atom monitor, the 90's midrange was muddier and not nearly as well defined as the atom's. And I'm not a huge monitor fan in general, only listened to the 90's cause they were on sale. They both have about the same low end freq response and the highs were about the same but the midrange driver was clearly inferior to the atom. I would only get them if they were on sale and that sale price was all you can afford. I'd definitely go with what others have said and get better quality mains, center and sub and save up for the surrounds for later. I've not heard the ascends, but I ended up with energy RC-10's for the office and have been very happy with them. They're probly still 300 for the pair at vann's.

Hello MAARON!

There are going to be a lot of choices for you in that price range. Dont jump into anything too quick though. Most of the time you can get more for your money if you get gear used & from someone who took excellent care of it. I am also a huge B&W fan, that is all i own. I love their warm & detailed sound.

I just wanted to let you know that i have a 6.1 sytem that i am selling. It may be exactly what you are looking for or it may not. Includes an HK reciever & small B&W speakers w/sub, & is inside your price range.

Since this is not the area to sell i wont get too into the details. You can email me if you like at tdiebert80@yahoo.com for more information.

Take your time & you will get what you are looking for!!
