I have an old theater in a box system but have replaced the front speakers with some JBL towers. I am now looking at replacing the reciever. I went to my electronic store and was looking at a couple. I just bought a house so am on a bit of a budget. The ones i was looking at are hte denom 688 and the yamaha 6060. I am looking for something that is good for both home theater and music. What do you think about these recievers or could i get something better for hte price. They are around 400 for the denom and 550 for hte yamaha

The Onkyo 605 is a $400.00 power house of audio video features. It's the one with the most modern features in its price range, supports HDMI 1.3, has plenty of power for your JBL's, everything.

I'm putting a system together for my friend and we just ordered a 605 for her. If you had $800.00 I'd give you my Emotiva speech ;)

Is there somewhere online you would recomend? I am also not really concerned about video switching because it will go directly to my tv. I have heard a little about the Onkyo but i don't think my electronic store sells them. If i don't find an online store to buy from would the ones mentioned be decent? Thanks

If a receiver gets a really good rating for sound but ok or below for video can you work around that by running directly to dvd or tv?

In other words all else being excellent should average or below video performance be a deal breaker by itself?

Check Amazon.com, they did have them for $379, then they went up to $429 and now they are $395. Free shipping, no tax, no worries.
I recommended the Onkyo to my sister, that is why I know a little to much about the price.
